On a Griff 500? The 40A fuse is fine and both fans run when fed with 12v directly.

But one of them refuses to come on when the ECU tells it to. (No volts across one of the fan plugs.)

Is there anyone who can save me a couple of evenings of dismantling the fuse box when I could well do without the bother?

Please...?

The two fans run on separate relays, and IIRC, some cars have separate fuses for each fan. Check the diagram in the front of your handbook, and you might hopefully find that Bob is your Mum's brother!

Two seperate circuits IIRC. One, again from memory, is fed though same fuse that is on horn circuit. Can't remember the other one.

RG is quite right but the handbook and Bible aren't necessarily true to real life in every case. One of the fuses may well even be a 30amp. I can remember Dave batty explaining that a 30 should be fine for at least one of the circuits.

Also, again IIRC, the two offending fuses are sitting next to each other.

Hope that helps a little bit

Well, the horn works... so I guess the "horn" fan is the one that's working.

I must confess that I thought that up to '96 the fans were wired together... Oh well - must pay more attention to the bible.

Dave's a bit far to go to help out on this one... Mind you, it'll be service time in about a fortnight...

Cheers Beano - I just looked it up. As you say, not all are the same, but as a general rule of thumb, earlier ones have one fan circuit, and one going through the horn. In the handbook for those, there will be marked one cooling fans relay and one horn relay. The fuse for the fans will be 40A. Mine's like this at June 1995.

On the later cars you'll find two fan relays and a separate horn relay. There will be two fan fuses, each 25A. The horn fuse will also be separate.

Edited to say try swapping the relays over and see if the other fan gives up?

Mines a 96 and only has the one 40A fuse for both the Fans. It may have been rewired and have a in-line fuse somewhere( sure I have heared of that before).
Bloody frustrating if its a wire short.Prehaps test the continuity from the fuse box to the fan with a multimetre?

Thanks.

It looks like the rest of the car's gone out in sympathy now... Must have joined the union.
