Gemini alarm

OK ladies and gents, before I spend a load of cash that I don't want to I just run this past the great font of all knowledge that is PH.

92 pre cat griff 4ltr.
Gemini alarm

OK here goes it. The alarm stopped responding to the fob some months ago, not a problem as it's garaged and has a separate imob, I had to do some work on the car so disconnected the battery, reconnected and of course couldn't turn the alarm off, I assumed it was the fob, so got a new fob coded, this doesn't work either, so am now assuming it is the alarm itself, it arms and goes off as usual when the battery is connected, the only strange thing is that the hazards flash continuously (as if the button has been pressed, but isn't) when the ignition is turned on. All very strange and a bit of a puzzler.

If anyone has any ideas I'd be very gratefull.

I had a similar problem with mine when i first got the car.. a few things worth trying.

1. Reconnect power to alarm again, possible you caused an interruption to the power supply going to the alarm, they dont like this!! i have done that with both my old Gemini and the new Meta and both set the alarm off with no way of stopping it!

2. When you reconnect power, look at the back of the unit? is there a small toggle switch? if so try and reset by pushing.. also try holding the keyfob for a set amount of time (10secs) or something equally impossible to guess.

i got mine reset someway like this, but i ended up not being very impressed and upgraded to meta anyway.

Thanks for that Peter, I tried those and more but no success, had a new alrm fitted the other day and all is well on that front now, it's just the fuel guage I've got to sort out now, powered from the old alarm I think, very puzzling.

Just interested to know what alarm did you get fitted and how much did it cost?

Mine is driving me bananas, I swear if a theif can get in my car at all/without setting the alarm off then he's a better man than me cos i can't and I've got the keys and the fob!

OK, I got a Cobra 3198 fitted by a fitter that I know and trust, he also does any number of other makes including Meta, I asked him whether it was worth going the Meta route as that's what newer Griffs have. He basically said that the Meta was a budget alarm and that he wasn't particularly keen on the way they worked, he also said he prefered working with Cobra's as they have almost never let him down, ie, he is a mobile fitter and if an install goes tits-up then he has to get back out to the car pronto, not a good use of his time, he also fitted a similar alarm a few years ago to a brand new Impreza MY2000 we had imported from Holland and it was faultless for a year and a half.

You can disable the volumetrics via the fob which is handy for a convertable and I think you can have any number of add-ons should you wish, full closure etc. WATERPROOF electronics too including the siren, which was the main prob with my old Gemini.

Nice looking, well made fobs too that are nice and flat in your pocket.

£250 fitted Cat 1. Not bad I thought, I got quoted £450 for the Meta fitted (out to me as the car couldn't be started) via a TVR specialist, I suspect he plays on the fact that many TVR owners pockets are rather deaper than average!

Things to check when/if you get a new alarm fitted are that the fuel guage works BEFORE he leaves, my fitter has offered to come back ASAP to fix, but I would't mind knowing how it works myself.

No boot release, wanted to keep it simple, but I'm sure that if it's something I wanted he would do it at a later date.
