It will run for a couple of seconds at times, but always stops again. I've had no success at all :(

It seems I'm getting sparks & air but no fuel.

There is fuel in the rails, as I can shoot the side of the car by pressing the valve in on fuel rails. The fuel pump primes and stops as it should and the starter works.

I have a fault code reader and it shows no faults. (It does work, as I made a fault for it to find...)

Running out of ideas now. And getting angry with the thing.

I wonder if its either the regulator thats faulty,or the pump isnt running continually after priming, like you think it is.Have you tried a seperate supply to run the pump?

Tried the separate wire to the pump - direct to the battery - no change.

BTW the 2 relays (pump and run ones) look to be OK, and the immobiliser appears to be working correctly.

When an ECU fails, does it give a fault code on the Land Rover fault indicator? (Like the manual says...)

I'm wondering if the injector driver transistors have died?

Are you seeing 12ishV at the injectors (ECU only flicks the ground). Continuity check from injectors to ECU for each bank.

Have you tried listening for 'clicking' of the injectors with a stethoscope. Would have thought it would run with a single bank working, assuming separate circuit/logic for each bank.

Is the fuelling affected by things like the feedback from the ignition circuit? which would not show in the diagnostic? ie no sparking :- Ill stop the fuel.

Not sure if this helps...

I've just found a short circuit that I don't think should be there...

Between pin 86 on the pump relay and 30 on the run relay. The cct diagram doesn't say thins should be there.

There is also a short between pin 30 on both relays - and the circuit diagram says this should be there.

In both cases, the ECU and battery were disconnected

Hmm, the fuel temperature sender seems to be a little out of spec...

Fuel temperature is about 15C, and the resistance is 3k ohms, which is a fraction low. I can't believe this is the cause!!

The AFM is the only sensor that doesn't fit in the spec of the Range Rover manual I have... It says that the voltage between pin 35 on teh ECU and ground should be 0.2 to 0.7 volts. Mine is 0.06 volts so not even close!

Looks like I have a candidate But why does it not show up on the diagnostic box?

All works now. It was a dodgy connector with a broken wire in a most inaccessable (and impossible to see) place in the engine bay...
