Does anyone know if you have to cut the diff bushes in half to enable them to be fitted?

I purchased a set of purple polys from Joospeed recently (so they should be the right ones) and today I attempted to fit them. They just aren't long enough.

I fitted one of the front ones but the lip on the one end did not come out of the mount, it was not even close (about 5-6mm).

I'm not happy because I wanted to crack on today and now this has set me back a bit. I was lucky to be able to remove the one I fitted without damaging it.

Had exactly the same problem with my Chim, the bushes were just too short. Ended up putting them in boiling water and then covering them in vasaline, got them in (still not perfect), bolted it all back together, and guess what? I now have a knocking noise from the rear under acceleration (could be the exhaust). The clucth is due in the next month or so, so I will be going back to the old TVR type bushes.

they will squeeze in and expand to the diff maount size, but if you're struggling then just cut back the shoulder by 2mm each side and refit. you can cut, shape, heat and generally mess around with poly to your heart's content.

the problem was superflex tried to make a one-size fits early and late diff mounts type bush and was only partially succesful, cutting back the shoulder (or grinding in a bench grinder is what i do) is pefectly ok.

They won't squeeze in and expand to the diff mount size, I wouldn't have posted this thread otherwise.

When I buy a bush designed for this application I expect it to fit.

This information regarding having to modify the bush to fit would have been nice when I purchased the goods so I could have made requisite plans to get them modified.

Now it's bank holiday and i'm buggered, great!

[customer service] send them back and I'll refund you . hth [/customer service]

you're the only person who's complained that fitting a poly diff bush is too difficult for them, they're much easier than the std tvr bush.

I don't make the bush, superflex do. I've been selling and fitting loads of them for 3 years.

however :

please don't fit the poly bushes, please fit the std tvr rubber bush then you'll know what a pita a diff bush can be to fit ...

apologies for ruining your bank holiday. if it's any consolation I finished re-installing an engine at 11-30pm last night through no fault of my own .. am working today and tomorrow aswell .. so if you want to know about ruined bank holidays just ask.

What the hell has your weekend got to do with mine! My problem is very specific, I too had to work this weekend but it has bugger all to do with this topic so why would I mention it!

Don't come with the "you're the only person who's complained that fitting a poly diff bush is too difficult for them" argument. I'm not too bad with the spanners. Fitting the bush once I’d hacked at it was not a problem, but I did not expect to do this so was merely asking the question

If I have to modify the bush to fit I expect to be told this before attempting to fit the item.

It does not matter who makes the bush, you supply them so they are your responsibility.

All that I needed from you was a reply or email simply telling me how to approach this; I did not need a lecture.

Anyway, best of luck with you engine installation.

Thankyou for your reply.

I was merely stating that you were not the only person to have their weekend ruined ("now I'm buggered, great" implies a certain amount of *pissed offness*). I fully sympathise with you having to work aswell, however you said the bush had ruined your weekend, which i fully take on board .. i was just saying my weekend had been shitty too... a kind-of common ground to appeal to your better nature. I see you have none. I apologise.

I do supply the bushes you're quite right (along with 4 other tvr superflex suppliers) and it is my responsibility .. if you're not happy with the bush(es) please return it / them for a full refund on the cost of the parts plus any carriage costs incurred.

I'm not lecturing you .. just saying that everyone else (me included) seem to cope perfectly well with the installation of the bushes. However i will be sure to speak to superflex and voice your concern over the suitability of thier product for it's intended purpose.

in the meantime, please be advised that some TVR parts or aftermarket parts for TVRs may need modifying before fitting, and because it may slip my memory to give you all the required information beforehand it might be wise for you to purchase your parts elsewhere in future in case i ruin any of your weekends again... just so you have all the information beforehand this time

Firstly I didn't say that it had ruined my weekend, I said that I wanted to crack on and couldn't because of this I was buggered.

The reason I went to Joospeed was because of the good customer service you offer. And even though I didn't get everything I ordered delivered (anti roll bar bushes) I was very happy with the service I received (and I publically stated this www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=177896&f=9&h=0&hw=suspension ) and It was a pleasure and reassuring talking on the phone to an expert such as yourself.

I came online and asked a question regarding whether it needs modifying to fit. Your reply stated that it was possible to fit the bush but it clearly wasn't to me.

You then went on by stating that I the customer should know that I should have to modify the part, I simply didn't, honest! At this point you are correct; my better nature did go out of the window.

This photo shows that the bush simply doesn’t fit:

And another of the modified bush (which wasn’t hard but I needed to know that it had to be done, and that I hadn’t been sent the wrong part!), which is still not perfect (the nearly whole shoulder would have to be removed for that) but it can be forced now with the aid of a screwdriver to allow the lip to come around the mount.

My apologies that this was on a public forum, had it have been a weekday I would have phoned you. But I was looking for anyones experience with this item, because like I said I wanted to crack on

I'd have to say that this thread comes very close to the name-and-shame rules and unduly so. Your original posts appeared to be blaming Joolz for wasting your weekend and supplying faulty parts. Joolz has offered you free advice and offered to refund you if you are still not satisfied. I really don't see how he can be any more helpful.

The parts do not appear to be an exact match for your wishbones. Given the large amount of variation in TVR "specifications", this does not seem unusual. They are all different.

I think some and some might be in order?

Theres only one way to tackle a tight bush in my opinion, and Jonnys right on the money. Force, Plenty of vaseline and boiling water... without this, buggered is the best you can hope for.

Actually, Im not 100% sure on the boiling water bit but if all else fails I suppose, give it a whirl.

Trust me, there are worse ways to spend a weekend

Anyway, I thought this kind of stuff was only posted in general gassing????

yes. i sent them all back.

ironically the diff bushes are now all correct

the front suspension bushes haven't got teh correct number of lined sleeves in.

the rear suspension dumpy bush is a complete farce.

hopefully they'll make them to my drawings this time instead of inventing their own ...

I'm sure life doesn't really have to be this hard

Oh yes it does. As the old saying goes,"if you want something doing right then do it yourself"
Not always too practical though, particularly when building a racecar.
