Hi I have a 1997 Griffith 500 and want to change the rear diff oil how do I identify what differential is fitted? I believe there are two types of diff GKN and BTR what oil do I need for these once I’ve identified which diff I have

GKN has big fins on the rear and were on the earlier cars. GKN 85w90. The BTR 80w140 I think.

Thanks guys,

Does the BTR have a rear case plate gasket or is it just sealant? How do you drain it?

Before you drain the oil make sure that you have a spanner large enough to undo the fill plug as it is an unusual size..29mm or 1 1/8th" and is very tight against the chassis.

It’s took some undoing today the fill plug but managed to get it undone, I’ve replaced it with a Allen key type fill plug from my local motor factors which will make it easier in future

Do you know how much oil the BTR diff holds?

I believe that it takes 1.4 to1.5 litres. Hopefully someone will confirm this for you.
