Strong petrol smell Pre Cat.
Discussion
Recently had a new sender put in the pre cat (sender is in the side of the tank). A couple of trips and I noticed a very faint smell of petrol but put it down to installation spillage as it wasn’t that strong.
Third trip out and all fine, got home and put in the garage. With 10 minutes the whole garage absolutely reeks of petrol. It’s coming from the rear I think. Opened bonnet no smell there and the boot interior doesn’t really smell. It’s in the air though - very strong.
Any ideas where to start looking for the source ?
Thanks.

You seem to have narrowed it down to the tank.
It could be that the sender Isn’t sealing. I cannot remember now whether it is an “O” ring or gasket / joint.
However, more likely it is a fuel pipe. I am about to do this job on my pre-cat and last weekend I gave it a good coat of looking at. I came to the conclusion that access to the tank would be much easier if the tank straps were released to allow the tank to be tilted. Clearly though, this runs the risk of disturbing a pipe. This could either be in the boot where it joints the tank, or at the fuel pump. Or at the top of the tank where the filler and breather are.
Is the near side carpet damp or any fuel under the near side rear of the car?
