Griffith 500 '97
Discussion
Been pondering a number of cars to move onto next. Many moons ago i owned a brilliant Cerbera 4.5 in cascade blue. What a stunning car but i eventually sold it and its now no longer as it ended up as a donor car for someone's performance project.
So here i am now looking at TVRs again after many other cars; and passing of years. Done with out and out speed (and don't do track days any more). I have been looking at a '97 Griff 500 with low mileage; been well looked after in a collection.
I would be interested in other Griff owners views of running the car for say 5k miles per year up in our northern counties (country roads, tractors, deer, and often cold) with the occasional trip down south on the motorway. I would take it now and again to shows / events - but still would like it to earn its keep and drive it around for local trips.
So just looking for views on Griff ownership experiences, to get me in the mood.......
Cheers

Ive had mine for 15 yrs and near 50k miles dont think i could part with it now hasnt been cheap
But definately fun budget on about 1k a year on servicing and niggles , my advice would be if you start getting any running problems get it into powers for the mbe ecu upgrade best money ive spent
So far and dont bother with any fancy shocks theyre not worth it and dont like a british winter if your like me and drive all year standard bilsteins are great.

It has the TF500 induction so Smooth flow pipe, & fuel regulator. So would appear to make it a neat motor to just enjoy the experience. I have had so many different cars and am having my own debate between modern marques with all sorts of goodies on show and a connection with basic motoring. Its that time of life.
Back to the future? or present perfect?

I love the true Pistonheads replies - "go for it". None of the other negative cost / price / problems which many people post. Its the joy of finding, owning, driving, looking after and talking about them.
Its also the fun of weighing up what to do, meeting many conflicting requirements as to what you should get. As Wayne Carini says : you are not going to win 100% of the time but its the fun of the chase - or something like that.

Had adjustable Nitrons on mine for probably 16 years, very happy with them. Are Bilstein Yellows the new favourite?
I fitted new Bilstein green shocks to my first 500 and they were superb. From memory the green units are a “low pressure” gas shock. The yellow sports are a “ high pressure” gas shock. The green units were OE fit to my first 911 ( a 1980 3 litre SC ) they worked well, even though they were old units by 2004.

My Chimeara has benefitted from Powers Performance engine refresh and Mbe over the years.
Mega reliable, lots of power and very reasonable fuel economy which shows the old Buick can still be made to perform very well indeed given some modern tech added to keep it running silky smooth.
