Rovergauge arrived thanks, car running rich

Hi

Rover gauge arrived a couple of days ago thanks.

Car has been running rich ever since I got it back on the road.

It fires up no problem, runs ok, even the tick over is reasonable, but it is running rich.

On the rover gauge the MAF is 4%, and the Right bank Lambda is +100% or 0%

To my untrained eye, I’m looking at a new lambda sensor and possibly a MAF?

Thoughts appreciated.

Set the MAF to direct to get a sensible reading at idle. It should be in the 30 percent region depending on engine size and idle RPM. Swap the lambda probes over and see if the trim value moves with the probe, as adding 100 percent fuel equates to no out put voltage from the probe, so it could be faulty. It should throw a fault code if it never switches.

Thanks Mark, I was going to do exactly that with the lambdas, just waiting for a socket to turn up to do them. I’ll try that with the maf, and report my findings, cheers.

Mini feedback, went to Direct on rovergauge and the MAF is spot on around 34%. Cheers

Swapped the lambdas over and the fault switched on rover gauge also. Plus see the difference in the sensors.

Just watch for the glitch in rovergauge where the sensors are labelled the wrong way round .. ie even sensor is really odd bank. Not sure when it was corrected but my version at 0.7.something is definitely the wrong way around.

If you do end up buying new lambda's they are Titania based (most cars run Zirconia)

I bought a pair of them Jan this year from LRDirect ERR6729

Seriously renew both they are NTK (a subsidiary of NGK brand) dont buy cheap/knock off ones they slow with age anyway so try to keep things balanced as poss

Yep agree looks like they are now only selling pattern ones. NTK are the ones to go for.

Ive bought a ngk sensor this morning, although I was thinking of buying 2 and keeping the old one that works, as a spare. I’ll wait till it turns up and go from there.

The ones on lrdirect are britparts now, but thanks.

The pic of the 2 sensors, they were clean last week as I took them out when I removed the pre cats. Doesn’t take much to soot them up.

When the sensor turns up, I’ll let you know the findings.

Just be aware any silicone contamination or zinc in engine oil kills lambda sensors.

O2 sensor turned up today.

Over fuelling smell has gone and it ticked over great.

Just ordered another sensor to have a matching new pair, both ngk’s.

Wasn’t able to drive it due clutch master cylinder out for replacement, will be done tomorrow, and I can then test, but all looks good.

For anyone searching the o2 lambda sensors are 17mm.

All back together today.

Took it for a test drive to Screwfix and back.

All seemed good, just waiting for the second lambda sensor.

Just to say say 2nd lambda arrived today, fitted and checked with rovergauge.

I’ve got to say it’s a really useful bit of software, I like the fact it’s all on one page. Credit to all those involved, many thanks.
