Exhaust swap

I'm surprised I cant find anything about this in the archives but can anyone tell me how difficult it is to swap the entire exhaust system - manifolds and all - and if its a job you can do at home in the garage with jacks/axle stands etc.
Do you drop the manifolds in from the top and lift the exhaust to meet it?
IIRC its only a couple of brackets underneath but I'll have a look when its in the garage at the weekend getting the clutch done.

I've got the opportunity of getting a SS system for mine and want to know if I need to get it on overhead ramps or if I could fit it at home.

The main exhaust (starting from the back) is held by a mount rear of the diff, which is just a 8 mm nut.
Then the main box support plate which bolts to the chassis with about 8 bolts.

Then the pipe is bolted to the gearbox via a bracket and one bolt.Then another bracket and bolt onto the side of the block.
And finally the u clamp with seals it to the Y section coming from the front of the engine.

The Y section unbolts from each manifold.

Beware before you unbolt the Y piece , make sure you can get some new gaskets.I am writing this based on your profile saying you have a 92 precat like mine.

And this is where my knowledge ends as I have never removed the manifolds .

Its easy enough with car on ramps (on the drive), just lots of snake like movement on your back. Plenty of threads on manifold removal.

Exhaust off is a good time for lube of diff, gearbox, propshaft. Fine time also to lube the handbrake cable & linkage. With manifolds and exhaust out - there is quite a lot of chassis that can be fettled...

I found on early 4.3 Chim I had to remove the alt & bracket + swirl tank to get the manifolds out. There seems to be different clearance issues on the range of cars... Removed starter to get easier access to rear lower manifold bolts
