Just had my Griffith back after new rockers. The steel cushions on several had deteriorated and one or two had completely come off. Apparently the tappets and cam shaft were ok and nothing else needed doing. They have fitted a magnetic surround to the oil filter.
Any views on this? Are they effective? I was advised to take it easy for a hundred miles or so.

Johno has one on his Griff and was surprised how many metal fillings where attrached to it, but should get less as first time it collects al that was sitting about.
Personally i think it is a good idea and cant do no harm, getting rid off all them small bits of metal flying about the engine.

Believe Steve Heath sells them

Can do no harm, but if you have a magnetic sump plug that ought to pick the worst of it up. In any case wouldn't the filter erm ... filter out metal particles anyway? Or are you thinking about microscopic particles?

I have a ring of high power neodymium magnets surrounding my filter to attract all of the µscopic particles of ferrous material floating around (they are so powerful that you struggle to get them apart if you stack them. Good idea IMO. Green is right that the larger bits should be being caught by the filter, either that or it is not working.

Got a couple of strong neodymium magnets on mine. Haven't checked the old filter to see what was picked up yet.
