PS I see it's quite close to a sewage works. I should feel at home then. And before anyone gets the wrong idea, I work for a water company. Not the one that runs those works though.

Will a ticking exhaust manifold gasket make any difference on a power run? ie. Is it worth changing it tonight??

Depends on how bad it is, but I would say it's unlikely to make much difference if it's just a slight tick.

I'm planning to renew the heatshield & wrap the manifolds too .. I doubt I'll have enough time to do even one side this evening!

It's quite a noisey tick under high load / low revs ... at high revs it can't be heard, presumably all the other "noise" hides it!

Charlie mentioned from 11.30am to 2pm, but not had a confirmation as yet. Aiming to be there as close to 11.30 as possible. You have reminded me to take my camera out of the draw - cheers!

Bloody TVRs.
I went to get some petrol before setting for Camberely, when I noticed a new noise from the rear of the car. It happened every time I went over a bump in the road. It's hard to describe, but it's a sort of metallic noise like metal on metal. I had to pass back near my home, so decided to put it on the drive for a quick look. When I drove over the pavement (it's dropped there of course to ease access) the noise repeated, only much louder as the suspension compressed and came back. I think it may be the anti-roll bar bushes or maybe a broken spring. Anyway I'm too pee'd off to get the car on axle stands for a look. The other thing is that the missfire that I thought I'd cured a few weeks may have returned in a less severe form.

I decided it would be wise to reluctantly abort the trip to Surrey Rolling Road.

Charlie, sorry about not turning up. I was really looking forward to it. I tried to ring you about 1 o'clock, but just got the answering machine, so I left a message. I guess you were busy with the other attendees. Hopefully I can come at some later date, if I haven't swapped the Griff for a Lotus by then.

What were other cars producing?

My standard 98 500 produced a healthy 213 BHP and 252 lb/ft of torque at the wheels, equating to approx 270 BHP and 325 lb/ft torque at the flywheel. Nice smooth power through the power band too

That's quite hefty losses from flywheel to wheels. Is that typical?

assuming peak power around about 5k revs, a cerbera loses around 50hp at that roller speed ( about 105mph i think) .. the griff is a slightly lighter than the cerbie so i would expect about 45bhp losses, the flywheel figure would be closer to 258hp on that basis imo.

mine had losses of 30bhp when on the twin plenum, around 280bhp ATW. Mark adams thought that this was pretty good for a griff, with losses of around 40-50bhp not unusual.

Seasider, those are truly awesome figures if standard chipping. have to say i feel the R/R was a bit "keen" but even so, that would STILL mean you've got a stunner there (if its still a 500 )

Blimey seasider that is a stonking set of figures for a 5ltr . Can I assume it has been 'mildly tweaked' . Out of interest what is the engine spec and what were the wheel figures .

Anyone else care to post their results too, or even better a table of the days results.
Johno what did yours put down in the end, assuming you made it that is .
