Had to drive home with alarm sounding

After spending a nice few leisurely hours at Oulton yesterday, it was time to go home. Needed some bits from Demon Tweeks so called there on way back, locked the car - alarm was a little reluctant to set, but did so eventually. Came out hit the button, and the alarm went off, had to relock car and try again, to make matters worse needed to get petrol in town. Same thing happended again, forecourt full of cars and there's mine sqwaking like a banshee.

There was no way to stop this, didn't want to put something over the sounder in case it came loose and fell onto the manifolds/exhaust, so only option was to drive 18 miles sounding like a new NW Police car.

When we got home Chris removed the sounder and let its battery run down, refitted this morning and it's still doing the same thing (sounding when turning alarm off)
Imobiliser works fine and does its job, it's just this sounder, it's the Meta alarm system.

Anyone lived through this?
any solutions? other than a possible new system

Oh and it still runs with a misfire between 2/3000 rpm and that's after having a new distributor fitted.

Uncle Dave - felt I should have at least had a blue light - dam it they torch was in the boot, could have used that with the orange lens cover. Will know for next time

This happened on my 97 Chimaera..turned out to be the wiring down to the siren...it runs down near the air induction pipe, it was very brittle due to the heat from the manifold and alot the insulation was missing.I managed to replace all the wires and have had no trouble since.

Only way I could stop mine was by throwing it up the driveway.... replaced with aftermarket Clifford alarm and covered boot and bonnet... @ £400. one of the best things I have ever done to the car!

I've also just had a problem with my alarm (TOAD), not as noisy as yours as it stopped working completely. They replaced the black box and all seemed fine until i got home, then completely dead again. Took the car back and they checked the wiring, the wire to the siren ran alongside the manifold, the heat had turned it brittle and it just snapped like a twig. New siren and all working again - the wirin is now a bit further away from the manifold.

Probably a knackered siren - they get water in them and corrode. Simple job to replace...
