I don't know how to set up a poll or if you can :silly: But hopefully a list of replies will follow.....
So, your looking at Pistonheads,Top Marques, or your new copy of Sprint has just dropped on the doormat. Your browsing the classifieds and something catches your eye.The picture looks OK so you start reading the blurb. You see in the description the words "respray" or "full recent respray"........
Does this mean you put a X through the ad and discount it, or put a ring around it as a possibility........

They all suffer from unsightly stonechipping to the nose if used properly, so I'd view a respray as evidence that the seller cares enough about the car's condition and presentation to have spent several hundred pounds getting it to look smart.
If it's covering up accident damage, it's usually easy enough to spot, anyway.

Must older models or even newer well used ones (ask Johno) will probably have had a nose re-spray at somepoint, as the Griffith nose being low slung is very partially to getting acne from stone chips.
So it woulnt put me of totally, if an older 4.x has the new nosecone on it could mean its been in a hit.
If it has been in a prang and as long as the chassis and engine etc is ok the body can be re-sprayed and panels changed quite well if done by a decent GRP specialist.

I have a 4.3 with a 500 front end on but because I know the history I don't mind.
So take the respray as generally a good thing but do a bit of research if theres been any major modifications to the car. You'll find previous owners are generally only too happy to talk about their old steed.

I've got a 4.3 with a 500 nose too - and two full resprays! A third coming soon... You can get the early nose cone now so an original nose is no guarantee of an incident free life.
Every TVR I looked at had had bodywork, so if the owner 'admits' to the respray I'd view this as a good thing. It's when they say 'never been in an accident' (or the dealer shrugs and denies knowledge) that you want to be careful - look hard for evidence of a respray to be as sure as you can that they're telling the truth.
As has been said, the Griff is going to need a nose respray every 10-12k to keep it looking mint. Obviously lots of stone chips result if this isn't done - no bad thing, just a sign of usage.

Mine's a 99 and at 25k miles and one err... 'careful' lady owner it sure needed the care. Next to a LE Griff 500 it looked much better presented.
Beauty is only skin deep, always pays to check the chassis out thoroughly, be that a car or a lady.

The chassis is what you have to worry about - rust!!!!
Just ask tro see the bil for the respray, or contact the paintshop, if you are concerned about accident damage... You wil then easily see/find out cosmetic stonechip respray or not...
My griff had 2 now, both cosmetic, one paid for my a merc drivers insurance when he put a 2 inch scuff on the front wing, baking into it at a garage, if i hadn' seen it, i would have been annoyed but used a touch up paint, but complete front end minus bonnet - to get the match, and 2 week in a courtesy boxster S, thanks to some company who specialised in getting approriate car hire...
It was a bit annoying as it had only had the first front end respray 6 months previously....
Some griff's are over 13 year old now, and I would be surprised if they did not have had a respray at this age.

Not sure if its the response i expected or not, which is good .......
Itoo would expect most cars to have had a nose cone, or maybe sills resprayed, as said elsewhere,picking up stonechips it does become unsightly over time and going to the expense/trouble of sorting things like that on a car shows how it has been looked after....
I think what i was trying to gauge was that if a car has had a full respray, and maybe a colour change, does that mean its maybe had some sort of "bump", then it would be ruled out. Either that or its had a fastidious owner......
Some people would ,if a car has had some sort of damage, instantly rule it out, but personally, providing the owner has info on how/where it was repaired, it does certainly not put me off.I am currently on the lookout for a Griff , and to be honest the one I am currently giving most thought to is a damaged repaired one.....

I would be more worried if a seller said it hasn’t had a re-spray, Griff are very prone to chipping. However mines now done 37K and hasn’t had one, but with more than just a casual inspection, you can tell.
I don’t mind that much, it still looks good to me. I’m not a concourse or detail polisher but my car is clean, tidy and well waxed. To be honest if at this moment in time I had £1000 to spend on her it would be on new bushes and shocks over paint.
