Gearbox out, now stuff not workin
Discussion
I had the clutch thrust bearing replaced last week - amongst other stuff - which means the gearbox was out.
I've been driving the car for a couple of days to and from work and tonight the speedo became intermittent - actually, it makes driving quite interesting not having any idea what speed your are doing !
Also, I've been told tonight my reversing lights don't work.
The gearbox having just been out seems the likely culprit for the reversing lights but could this affect the speedo too?
Thanks chaps

The reversing light switch is gearbox mounted - probably forgot to reconnect it. My mind boggles when stuff like this happens, it's so frustrating.
Thanks for the advice chaps. The Toy is booked in for Tuesday and Merv agrees with your diagnosis that the problems were caused by the gearbox being out.
While I have your attention I have one more Question and one Request ;
Q. The stepper motor is not doing its usual thing and the revs drop off to 1000rpm when I drop out of a gear and sometimes it gets close to stalling. The bible notes for problems with this says "... it is controlled by the ECU, which may be sending incorrect controll information. this could be caused by faults in other sensors, such as the throttle potentiometer and the road speed sensor, which means that the ECU does not recognise or know that it should be controlling the idle speed."
Sounds about right doesn't it, Anyone experienced this in a 4.3?
R. Can someone with a 4.3 and rover gearbox tell me what the hell speed I'm going - can you tell me what revs equate to 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70. Anything over 70 and I've obviously thrown caution to the wind anyway !!
Thanks muchly chaps.

I don't want to give you false hopes, but one of the inputs to the stepper motor control is a road speed sensor. Any guess where this comes from?
The gearbox?
Thanks for all your help GREENV8S
I'll let you know how it all goes next week.
Meantime, I'm just out there enjoying it.
BTW. I had the clutch master cylinder cover off - the bit on the inside of the wing - blimey, you wouldn't believe the amount of heat that enters the cabin without that in place. It was like a bloomin sauna

Sorted. Realigned the reversing light switch and gearbox sensor connections needed cleaning (I think)
THANKS MERV.
(Autotune-TVR, Barwell, Leics.)
I hope nobody minds me mentioning that but he's looked after me just fine and I like to mention good work done at a fair price.
He lightened my bank account for a set of Magnecours though.
Note to self: Stop talking to Merv.
