Hi Ety,
I have just bought an infrared laser thermometer to check tyre temperatures when hill climbing and I noticed a section in the manual 'misfiring cylinder'
It basically says that this can be located by taking the temp of each branch of the manifold, and the cool branch indicates the misfiring one. Easy!! It also states to do this when the engine is cool (i.e when you first start up and to monitor which stays the coolest longest) as the heat transfer will heat the cold one up??!!
You will have to get one or better still borrow one.
Regards,
Lig.

Pull off the plug leads one at a time while the engine is idling. The idle speed will drop for those cylinders that are working, but there should be no change when disconnecting the down cylinder. Gloves are a good idea when doing this to avoid burns and shocks

Just had a further thought - the stepper motor may well compensate for the idle speed drop - not completely sure as none of my cars have had this function. Although there may be enough of a delay to isolate the offending cylinder. Alternatively, pull the plugs and look at their condition. Should give some idea if one is down.
