Help/Advice needed for Griff gremlin please.
Discussion
I looking for some advice on a small gremlin that keeps rearing it's ugly head every month or so.
I have posted about this problem before but didn't know what the problem was, but now I think I know after receiving advice here.
I'll run through the problem again.
Now and again, when I'm in my Griff it will cut out, it has happened five times now and all within twenty minutes of starting it from cold (don't know whether that's coincidence or not). The stereo is still playing and I have dashboard lights.
It has been mentioned on here before that it could be the immobiliser cutting in. After happening five times I think it is this, as when it stops I try to turn it over immediately and there is nothing until I blip the fob and hey presto it starts and carries on without further ado.
My question is where is the best place to have this looked at? (I live on the south coast). It's just had a service and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, but personally I don't think they looked.
I don't want to touch it myself (if I do, I'll break it).
The model is a 1998 Griff 500 with a Meta M99T alarm system. I've got to get this done as it's starting to get on my tits now.
Cheers.

Grouch,
If you beleive its electrical, specifically alarm related, I would call Carl Baker. He lives just north of Portsmouth so not too far from you. He travelled up to Brum to change our immobiliser and replace our crappy TVR fobs with proper Meta ones.
His web site is:
www.tvruk.tv.
If its not the alarm I'm sure he'll find it for you.
Very nice bloke and knows his stuff.
Good luck.

I had a similar problem with my Meta immobiliser but mine was with the starter circuit. The immobiliser cuts 3 cicuits, Ignition/starter/fuel pump. It sounds like yours is cutting the ignition circuit when driving, I believe others have had the same problem. You can check if you have a voltmeter, drop me a PM with your email address and i'll tell you how to do it, best not to say on a public forum.
This could be similar to a problem I had with my Immobiliser.
The immobiliser apparently has three small circuit board relays, one for the Fuel pump, starter solenoid and ignition circuit. These are not really up to the job especially the starter one, hence David Beer Relay Kit. The immobiliser unit is fully potted in and can not be repaired so if one fails completely the unit can be bypassed but should be replaced for insurance purposes, to maintain Thatchem CAT 1. If you want to replace the unit talk to Metaman (Carl Barker), he runs a company that can do this, but it isn’t cheap as the new unit must be synchronized to the rest of your system.
However all is not lost, since immobiliser worked when cold, I assume this is the same for you, the unit is not dead yet.
I could get at mine in the Griff by removing the radio and vent ducts, the immobiliser is a black plastic box with a red label having T99 (I think) on it and a lot of all black wires coming from one end, about 2 x 4 inches. It was sat directly on top of the bellhouseing cover and getting fried. The wires are long and all bundled up, if you cut the tie wraps there should be enough wire to move the unit to a cooler location behind the dash. I moved it way over to the right hand side, as close to the steering wheel as possible and wedged it in place with some foam. It’s been like this for nearly 10 months now and I’ve not had any problems since (at least 6 months now).
If this doesn’t work and you want to by pass the unit, this is possible just run a wire from the ignition to…better mail me direct.
Cheers,
Simon.

Cheers guys for you help, I don't really want to get into some intense electrical work on my car because I won't be able to do it, in the end it would be cheaper for somebody else to do it.
The relays don't sound to hard to do
On second thoughts, I might have to take a trip to Portsmouth.
Cheers all.

Paul, is that the correct link for Carl Baker?
