Rear View Mirror - wobble!!!

Could you please advise?

Lets say that - hypothetically,you understand - you were travellin at,at ...mm...lets say 90 mph on a relatively normally bumpy/smoothish motorway (still hypothetical as obviously the speed limit is 70mph :nono:)...would any of you experience severe RV mirror wobble which ineffect renders said instrument useless? (I suspect a "they all do that" response may be forthcoming :) )

Now if you were to experience this hypothetical wobbly-ness, what could you advise could be done to sort it? The mirror isnt intrinsically loose at normal speeds but obviously wobbles a bit over bumps.

The car itself handles fine and does not transmit any scary wobblyness itself - its just hypothetical vibrations of the RV mirror.

eerm....yes to a certain degree, but I can still make out whats behind me.

Hot weather makes it worse, even 'modern' cars suffer from this in hot weather.

...mine is rendered almost useless as an instrument at the speeds I mentioned (hypothetically that is!)

A week after owning th egrif I got so annoyed with the 'wobbles' that I pulled the mirror off, leaving the blob of rubber on the windscreen, and re-glued it on with evo-stick (lots of it!) evenly all the way around. It has worked a treat.

My mirror is fine at normal road vibrations (whatever the speed) and as far as I know the windscreen is original (96) and therefore the mirror is 'factory fit' but I guess 'factory fit' can be a bit variable.

With the roof off the mirror gives restricted rear view anyway so I clip a small mirror to the windscreen surround between the visors which is 20 cms or so above the rear mirror and is sufficient to give me a view over the top of the collapsed rear hood and gives me visual cover in the blind spot.

Whata cracking idea - this ties in with the other thread regarding preferred style re roof on/off and hood up/down.My prefered convention is to have the lid off and the back hood up precisely as it aids visibility

Where would one get such a clip-on mirror jobbie?

David Beer mentioned a while ago that you could turn the existing mirror upside down so that it's higher up. The visibility outta mine with the hood down and the roll bar is next to nothing but I guess this would work. Another small mod to get on with.

Btw the mirror at the moment has no problem with wobble at high speeds i.e. around 70

I have indeed turned mine upside down, not the mirror but the bracket and clamp. It leaves it very close to the roll over bar(i know its not !) so if wobble was still there, a foam pad between the mirror and bar would stop it. It a bit "bodgy" but i can see out the back with the roof down.

Try clipping the mirror to the dimming position. It is more sturdy when clipped like this so doesn't wobble as much !!

Undo the velcro on both sides, the roof folds down a good 2" further.
