Changing the darn thing hasn't worked so I thought I would try testing it last night. Tookl it out againand made sure the end was clean, put it as close as I could see was possible, tuerned the wheel and nothing. I set the voltmeter to 20V setting but no reading whatsoever.
Does this mean I've got a dud un?
Also the sensor does not locate at the highest point on the curve - it sits below this making it difficult to get it that close as the rotating wheel catches on the top of the sensor.
I assume the actaul sensor is just the metal part in the centre?
Getting a bit jacked off with the whole speedo thing now.

Also posted in general forum but I guess these are fairly standard across Griff/Chim/Cerb's of that era.

sorry if this is daft but was the Ignition on when you tested it? and where are you testing at, in the wire or at the ecu?

I was testing it at the connector plug attached to the sensor. Do I need to connect it up and then test at the connection - sorry if I am being thick but i've got a lot on my plate at the mo.
Sounds logical as why would it show a reading when it was connected to nothing.

I surpose if you used the reistance setting on your multimeter you should get some reistance deflection as you turn the wheel.
Otherwise plug it all in and test voltage across the wires by stripping a little unless you can get into the connector(paperclips straightened are good for this).
aturn ignition on and see if you are are getting something then on the voltage reading.
I know to be spot on you should use an oscilloscope but you should be able to get some readings the other way.

BB,
I'll give it a go.
Also I can add the following:
The 2 lights (orange and red) on the bottom of the speedo unit do not light up at all so maybe I've got a major feed problem.
Also the temp guage has started to drop off - sits around 70 and the fans come on at 80 whereas a few days ago the temp sat between 80 and 90 and the fans kicked in at just under 90.

Hi FFG,

Here is what the 14CU ECU Manual says -

Connect a volt meter between pin 6 on the ECU and ground.

Turn the ignition on.

Turn the wheel and you should get 0 - 12V fluctuation 6 time/revolution.

It's on my website if you want it.

Give me a shout if you need moral support. I work in sheldon now so am just round the corner.

Cheers Dave,
Anyone know which is te earth feed to the Speedo through the connector block behine the dash. While I've got the dash out, again, I can rig up an earth to see if that is at fault. If so I can remove the centre console and clean it up.
