Location of air flow spoiler/splitter

I had never paid much attention to the air flow spoiler fitted under our 4.0L Griffith until I partly dislodged it on a road hump recently. Getting under the car to remove it for straightening out, I was surprised by its location and shape. It was fitted about 6” further back than the rearmost edge of the underbody air vent, and the original shape appears to push air down rather than upwards. In this location I cannot see how it could do anything to help push more air into the radiator.

Can anyone advise the location (and shape) of their spoiler, since I would like to refit it (correctly). Apart from supposedly improving air flow to the radiator, it serves as an early warning for ground clearance problems.

Just for clarity, the car is a 1994 4.0L pre-cat in a 5L body (originally delivered to the Channel Islands.)

And helps to reduce front end lift.

the chin spoiler on my Chim is fitted such that it points downwards towards the front of the car and you're right, it's several inches away from any useful vents in the underside of the body.

The ones I've seen point forward and are just behind the lower opening to the radiator. They look as if they are designed to restrict air flow at that point and raise the pressure in front of them to encourage air to go up through the radiator. With the angle of the radiator it is marginal whether air is going to bother going through it, and even small changes in local pressure could have a significant effect. I expect it would be possible to mount the spoiler backwards, it would probably still work but perhaps not be as effective.
