I'm going to get a suspension upgrade and this sounds nice. I'm going to use my car mainly for road use with about 2 or 3 track days a year max.
With this set up, do you think that the rose joints will make the car too stiff and the ride too hard for a road car?

The reason I say this is after reading [url]this thread|http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=202644&f=13&h=0[/url] there was talk about rose joints stiffening up the car too much, albeit as said on here rose jointed ARB are OK.

Do you think I'm wasting a few hundred quid taking this option over Nitrons?

IMHO the Ohlins kit is one of the best around but I did hear word that they have now dropped the price of one of their kits to £1250 plus the dreaded.

I would check out further before making a move.

I reckon that a really good suspension setup is one of the best improvements you can make to a car. The difference between budget dampers and really good Nitrons is very noticeable. Nitrons are positioned between 'ordinary' dampers and high spec racing dampers from Ohlin, Penske etc. I've only got limited experience of Ohlins, and they felt very similar to my Nitrons; they both felt excellent. I expect that more demanding drivers may be better able to appreciate the difference.

I think there is a case of diminishing returns, and you would have to be a very discriminating driver to justify paying thousands of pounds a corner for racing dampers - but if you have significant sponsorship hanging on your race results then it's probably a no-brainer.

I would say in general get the best overall suspension setup you can afford. The dampers are an important part of this, but getting the suspension set up correctly (rates and geometry) is just as important. My advice is to find a really good specialist to set the car up, and go with their recommendation for dampers. Bear in mind that they may be able to do a better job (within the time they have available) with dampers they're familiar with, so you aren't always better off going for the dampers with the biggest price tag.

I reckon you should come along to the "monster" and check them all out.

talk to owners, see how the cars handle etc. as Pete says, the most important thing is the set up, and you can talk to those specialists too

The Ohlins are worth every cent,had them on my roadcar for a year and will now be putting a set on the racer.
You can get them with standard bush'ed ends instead of the rose joints,however I can't see the rose joints altering the ride too much if you have standard bush'ed wishbones.
SFR engineering seem to be the TVR,Ohlins boys in the know for UK.

I got Intrax with rose joints. Go for the rose joints. Much much better. Do not think about it just do it.

I have chatted with him but I might go for the expensive option. In an ideal world you could have them all fitted to your car and try them out before paying.

I just got Nitrons fitted and setup by TopCats on my Grif and I'll be at Snetterton on Saturday. If you're there I'd be happy to chat about it and take you for a ride. I'm sure there will be many others able to offer similar assistance there on Saturday.

TopCats urged me very strongly to go for at least the Nitrons - I hear that the Ohlins are about as good or better (depending on who you ask) and a bit more expensive. For a little over half the price of Nitrons, the new Gaz offering sounds excellent value, although the fitting and setup costs would be the same. On my limited budget I would have gone for Gaz if I hadn't picked up an excellent set of Nitrons from eBay
