TVR/Griff Plazzy Badge Removal: How?

Griff' goin' in for a front-end respray this weekend with a small repair to an area of crazed paintwork at the rear.

I want to keep the bodyshops labour time to a minimum by removing the TVR badge on the bonnet and the Griff 500 badge at the rear. I guess that if they're not just located with a stud and glued in place then there's gonna be an air filter housing to remove and some carpet to peel back in the boot.

Without access to Hubble, I can't check this out for myself as the stone chipped beast is 200 miles distant.

So, my Badge Bustin' Buddies, how should I go about this task? :thumbup:

Both badges are bolted in place, so you need to get access. For the rear one, you need to pull the felt liner from the boot - can be re-glued when refitting.

The front is a bit more 'fiddly'! I managed to squeeze a spanner in behind the air filter blind (as I couldnt see how to remove the filter easily) it wasnt easy, but I got there eventually. Re-fitting, I offered up the badge, and used 'cable-ties' around the thread to ensure it doesnt fall out again.

Kinda thought it was gonna be one of those fiddly little jobs that ends up takin' a whole day to do. Still, probably better I do it than pay someone else to do it for me eh?!

Two 10mm nuts on each i think, the back one's easy, the front one's a git to get spanner on especially if either of the nuts is rusted, even harder to get back on if you don't remove air filter cover. Baldy.

Got them off no prob's. Actually they're 8mm, but as I rounded them off using a Woolies pipe wrench, I used my trusty B & D jigsaw to cut around the badge using the edge as a guide. I'll Araldite them back in place when I have the car back from the body shop.

I wouldn't use glue to reseat them...

Use the bolts and finger tighten them... if you really feel the need you can get a sticky pad to go on the back of the badge.

What I was saying was that I'd actually cut around the badges. I've got badge shaped holes front and rear now; was in a hurry!

Hmm, I see that now Stringbag.

I thought I could perhaps get hold of some bigger badges from somewhere; only needs to be enough to cover the ragged edges. I'll think of something.

Perhaps others have taken this ill-conceived short cut ; what did you do?

That's right, I'm the one scratchin' my head and wondering which 'O' needs hosing away! It gets scarier than that too: before you get airborne next time, just check to see who'se signature's on the FRC.
