Tried a historic search found nothing

After a brilliant day at Snetterton I have realised that my 240 discs are feckin useless after 6 /7 laps. Hence the backward trip across the grass at the end of the straight.

I intend on going large in the next couple of months and was wondering if the TVR 4 pots (with 280 / 300 discs)are worth considering, or would I be better off with something else. Cosworth like. I have heard they may not be as good as others, and the pad size looks a little on the small size.

Looking for a front conversion for £500 ish if possible.

Need some track day user opinions please

Any pointers (or if anyone has a set up for sale)

The TVR 4 x pot calipers are made by AP Racing anyway.

I upgraded my brakes about 3 years ago and the overall cost was around £1,600 with the work being done by Peninsular in Devon – they are excellent.

I used TVR Tamora callipers which are pretty much the same as the AP Racing CP 5200 caliper which is listed on AP's web site as being the upgrade for the Escort Cosworth, so you may find the TVR bakes and the Cosworth are the same! You can find details here

This kit was £650 from Godspeed Brakes, fitting extra (4 pot Brembos, 280mm grooved discs, pads, hoses and brackets). It'll go straight under a 15" wheel with plenty of clearance.

Just been having the same dilemma. I'd been intending to fit the Brembo four pot upgrade with oversize discs as supplied by Ian at Godspeed. However, they've taken a price hike of £175 over the original bargain of £650. Having read various posts and done a bit of asking around I decided that my best option was for the fitting of 283mm discs upfront to maintain a more reasonable front/rear balance. I'll be keeping the original calipers all round as I understand many of those who have the opportunity for getting around the track, find them perfectly adequate once having changed to DOT 5.1 brake fluid to prevent fade.

In addition to the oversize front end and bracketry, Ian is supplying grooved rear discs, green stuff pads and ss braided hoses: £475 delivered.

Oh, just to add: he'll do a Volvo four pot conversion using 300mm discs (turned down to 295mm) with all'y bells and hoses for £595.

I like the look of that. Is that front disk larger than standard and are the rears larger than standard if included in that price?
Couldn't post a pic of the rears, could you?

It's just a kit for the front only, standard fronts are 260mm, these are 280 or so (best to contact Ian to find out exact details www.godspeedbrakes.fsnet.co.uk). No change was made to the rears (which are 273mm I believe). I've driven trinitycall's Chimaera with these fitted and once they're bedded in (took him a few hundred miles) they have huge power and great feel.

Steve.

Thanks Steve, that looks very interesting. So, it's Ohlins and a new brake upgrade for next season. When's that supercharger going to be developed?

I just got a HiSpec front kit fitted by TopCats. It is 4 pot calipers on 285mm discs. Supplied by TopCats for £620 including pads and hoses and, IIRC, VAT! Fitting extra, but should only be a couple of hours. Only got it last week, and used for first time on track on Saturday at Snetterton. Not completely upto speed with it, but so far I'm very impressed with it - lots more stopping power and no fade. Service from TopCats was excellent.

Previously I had the standard 260mm disk with the single pot floating calipers. Stopping power was OK, but even with EBC Green Stuff pads they tended to fade a little after a short while. Dot 5.1 fluid (IIRC) was also needed to prevent it boiling up.

I have 4 pots upgrade to the front and they certainly have some stopping power. The calipers are very close to the wheel rim though.

I am looking at upgrading the brakes on the S to Griff500 spec brakes so if any of you chaps are upgrading, I would be interested in your second hands brakes....

Give Andy @ APM a call, he did a Wilwood 4 pot caliper & a large dia disc conversion on my old Griff, and it didn't break the bank. The results after were awesome! (change the fluid too!!!)

Sounds like Godspeed may be the best way forward for budget upgrades.

Many thanks for all your info. I'll be following most of these tims up in the next few weeks, and who knows if Santa stops at my house this year (let's hope his sleighs brakes are bigger than 240mm) I should be the proud owner of some new stoppies before the next track day

Thanks again. I knew I could rely on you all

Any further tips greatfully received. And schnozz you are more than welcome to my 240 setup as and when. lets call it a beer.

Precat - Have e mailed ya

schnozz, I've still got the old 260mm discs and calipers taken off my Grif 500 last week. The discs were new about 8k miles ago. Calipers are original I think - I never replaced them. You are welcome to them if you pick up or pay for shipping. I'm in Harrow, NW London suburbs.

When I had an impreza P1 I needed to consider replacement discs for my Alcon discs that wouldnt brealk the bank. The Godspeed discs for the P1 were simply BMW ones machined to fit (so I was told) and so I concluded they werent for me.

Also to consider are Rally Design who do a variety of Willwood kits including one for Sierra for £362 that may be able to fit a Grif www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=562_563_567&products_id=3951

I'm not up to speed on scoobies, are we talking one piece discs machined to size versus a bell and rotor arrangement? Or is there some other difference that made the BMW ones inferior?
