Griff wouldn't start...then it did...Fuel pump issue..??

Hi All,

Just put some fuel in and then when I go to turn on, the fuel pump didn't make a sound and the car didn't turn over. All lights on but no-one at home!!

Sounds a bit like the immobiliser??

So i try it a few times and still nothing!

I remove and replace the fuel pump fuse (it was OK) and check \ reseat the relays (hanging off the ECU)and then she fires up fine!.

Is this coincidence about the fuse \ relays, as I assume if it was a dodgy connection \ relay, the engine would still turn over wouldn't it??

Mine did a similar thing and it was the relays. Electrics have a mind of their own it seems to me.

Did you replace them? and if so roughly how much were they? and...how do you know which is which (or maybe I should replace all 4 or is there 5)??

I think my post gave it away but I'm an electrical numpty. I took it to my local dealer who replaced two relays costing about £12 each. HTH

Lig, I owe you an apology! Just seen your other thread so looked back at my notes (yes, it's sad but I keep notes! ) My car was trying to turn over but not firing. If yours was completely dead then it looks like it's more than just the relays. Good luck!

As the fuel pump and the starter both didnt work i would say its unlikely to be a relay problem and more to do with the immobiliser as it cuts both these circuits. I along with a few other griff owners have had problems with the standard fit Meta immobiliser failing intermittently. Sometimes one or more of the circuits can fail causing these symtoms. On mine it was the starter circuit. Easy way to check if it happens again. PM me and i'll let you know how to check, not a good idea to post on a public forum.
