GAZ shocks - not so shocking!!

Have just got back my Griff after having a full set of GAZ adjustable shocks fitted (the shiny ones - worth the extra £30!).

I had new upper and lower wishbones fitted at the front at the same time, all work done by Mervyn at http://www.autotune-tvr.co.uk/

What a difference! Before, I think the car was running on its original 10 year old, 25000 mile shocks, with a leak in one of the rears. The ride before was bone-jarring, and now it is 200% better. IMHO it was worth the money just to stop the missus complaining - and she has noticed the difference immediately. Not often you spend money on the non-shiny bits of the car and the other half notices!!

Due to the weekends inclement weather I haven't had a real chance to get the full feel for them yet, but intial driving seems to be much smoother and the steering appears to be tighter (could be down to the new bushes as well).

I would be interested to hear from others with the GAZ setup to see what settings they are running.

Also a recommendation from me to anyone in the Leicestershire/Warwickshire area to give Mervyn a call. Very impressed with the work.

Had my car set up by Steve Gugliemi ... totally transformed the car ...... for what I use it for blatting around country lanes its a great set-up.

Also had mine polybushed about a month before new dampers n springs fitted.... so all nice n tght as well.

did you change the springs at all? To me the Griff feels a bit undersprung, especially under brisk acceleration and a bit overdamped when going round those bumpy twisties. I should add that a) I know next to nothing and b) I only want a good handling road car, not a track day special. Very tempted by the Gaz shocks, feel like Nitrons are probably overkill for me, certainly more than I can afford at the moment.

I agree on the underspringing, Guglielmi recomended 400lb springs on the front and 325Lb on the rear and nobody has complained yet about ride quality.(well not on the 58 sets fitted so far)

He also thought a car with 25lb less front and rear was a great handling car when he drove it at The Monster meet

I agree, those are the rates I was originally fitting and they will handle fine with a bit more compression on the damping but Gugi eventually decided on slightly stronger springs and less damping

Just keep an eye on the shocks top mounts at the front, my old griff got through 2 sets of shocks as the bushes kept splitting.

They did transform the cars handling though.

I haven't had any bushes splitting on Gaz but I have heard of another make that are using red polybushes that don't seem to last very long on cerbs, griffs or chims, unless anybody want's to tell me different.
