Griff re-spray It might be rude to ask ...How much?

It might be rude to ask but here goes....
Have decided to have the griff resprayed this winter: Usual stone chips, fine scratches and blemishes but no cracks dents or dings. Have spoken to a couple of the body shops that feature regularly on PH and TVRCC:
:confused: Help please.... Is there anyone that has had a first class total respray (doors / bonnet / hood / lights etc off), during the last year or so and if so how much were you charged. I know all paint jobs are slightly different but it would be really useful to have a rough idea of the going rate.
Any comments mucho appreciated....

Just called the guys' that did my front end last week. From what I can see on your profile, your car is a med/dark blue metallic? Based on what you say of its condition, they reckon that without confirming this for themselves that it'd be £1500 plus VAT going to an extreme of £2000 plus VAT for unseen rectification. I know people who've paid considerably more but they did a first rate job for me and used Standox materials which I understand are amongst the best. I guess your fuel bill'd exceed that to get to Cornwall and back though.

From knowing a few people who have had their cars re-sprayed it all depends on how the car is prepped.
Generally you've got to budget £3k all in for a proper job as you do not know what is hidden under the the paint work when rubbed down...... IMHO
Had the rear of my car done cost circa £800 ( promotional deal by Austec including removal of major stress cracks)...... v good job, had many comments on the body work since Paul and his merry men had it.

Got mine done just after i bought it last year and the job was good for me, but there were a few (6" square) dull patches which I had to go back for and they 'buffed' it up. It was a doors off job and they also repaired the bonnet which had a nasty crack in it. They chared £940 all in. which was a good price and the job was acceptable. Depends on how much you want to pay I guess??? I did know the garage and had other cars serviced there but i dont think they did me any special favors - I will ask him how much for a respray with no favors as I will be speaking with him tomorrow!! I think 2-3K is way too much! IMHO.

Thank you all for your replies - including several via my profile... food for thought that you can get a repaint that you are happy with from around £1000 right up to £3000.... I'm following up a couple of suggestions PH'ers have made and welcome any more comments - will let you know what the final outcome is... and the results (if I can make a decision!!!) in a few weeks time:Hopefully smooth and shiney! The answer is you only get what you pay for.
A cheap blow over in the same colour with minimal prep is exactly that. the last car i painted was a cobra replica in Jag saphire blue pearl with white stripe and laquer finish. it cost me £700 for the paint and materials.
if you are doing a panels off / strip / prep and full paint than if you are paying less than £2500 something is wrong.
re-sprays and tidy up blow overs are totally different things. A blow over may be fine if your car is sound. it won't give a lasting depth of finish though.
The difference in prep between reasonablb / acceptable and flawless/ perfection is also about 30 man hours.
£12-£1500 in labour alone.
£500 materials
£1500 labour
£XX Profit
There will be others who say it can be done cheaper. it always can but you will not gain any long term durability. These are the people who usually haven't sprayed cars before and don't understand how time consuming it is to do a proper job.

Agree with what you are saying Neil, But out of choice unless your car is really bad or fading (especially if it is red) why would you need a full respray (unless you have lots of cash)?

I would recommend you leave it to the garage to decide (if you trust them) My chap is based in West Yorkshire if anyone is interested - rather than spend 3k why not get my chap to do it for 1.8k and then get a new cam and engine overhaul !!!

I wish i could afford a set of hub caps at the moment let alone anything else! (new house).
