Hi All,

My bonnent is sitting unevenly ..one side has sunk almost 1/2" .. and is now not lonfer flush with the side panel. I undid the nut on the bonnet hinge (p 311 in the bible).. but can't extend the length of the arm?..

The threaded section is either stuck/ rusted internally.. or I am missing something on the ajustment..

Any ideas..???

Thanks in advance

Hi Lindsay hows it going

Cant say I have ever had to adjust mine. But cant help thinking if it was flush at some point and isnt now something must be loose enough for it to have sagged.

Have you taken the actual bonnet off, quite easy
And tried to turn the black threaded part that attaches to the ball part on the underside of the bonnet... Does that make sense?

Hi Simon..

All's OK.. went for a 300km spin on the weekend...I'm still smiling.. except I got overtaken by a Ducati...going soooooooo fast I felt like I was standing still.

So.. you are saying that the black thread should twist out of the socket (where the ball goes)...I have had the bonnet off.. but can't get the socket to twist on the threat..seems VERY stuck and VERY tight.

Do you think I should be braver with a spanner!!

Thanks..

The threaded piece with the ball socket on the end should screw in and out of the hinged strut connected to the hydraulic spring. The nut acts as a lock nut. So you should be able to undo the locknut and (having disconnected the ball and socket joint) screw in/out the threaded part. thing is, it will have rusted up internally and be very very stiff if it moves at all. If it won't move with mole grips and lots of WD40(preferably with leather/rubber/kitchen towel between the jaws to save damaging the thread you're gripping) then it's a problem. But bear in mind two things...

1) adjusting the threaded portion will not raise/lower the bonnet when the bonnet's closed, it will move it forward/back

2) what caused it to move in the first place?

This doesn't seem like rod end adjustment.
The metal fixings to the body will have slight adjustment though, adjust both though, ie left down, right up or vice versa for max movement.
If you still need more adjustment, you can bore out the fixings to give you more play.(you may need bigger washers after doing this.
