I'm insured with Classicline at the moment, on a limited mileage policy.

When I took out the policy, I had to confirm that I had substantial experience on 200bhp+ RWD cars (fair enough...).

I'm now wanting to add a lady friend of mine to the policy, who drives a Merc CLK220 at the moment, clean licence & good driving record, but hasn't driven anything quicker with RWD.

Anyone know of insurance companies who are willing to entertain drivers with less performance experience and what sort of costs will I be looking at?

For reference, the car is a '93 Griff 500 (second car), I'm 37 with full NCB & clean licence and the lady is 39 with clean licence.

I had a similar problem when trying to insure our 500 for the first time last month, my other half not having been insured on anything quick before (having driven some cars I've had wasn't enough - she had to have been a named driver on an appropriate policy).

After trying lots of different companies, Peart offered the best deal by a good distance. Hope that helps!

Hi I am insuring a grff for the first time and Footman james www.footmanjames.co.uk have been great and the most competive, classic line have been quite unable to assist me in any way and have been generally inflexible. • New enquiries (Sales) Tel: 0845 458 6782 - Fax: 0121 561 6226

I have used Peart for several high performance cars (Sierra Cosworth,BMW M3 and now Griff 500) with my wife as a named driver with no problems. The wife even has 6 points!! but we are both over 40!

My Chim 450 is insured with Norwich union - Their quote for me was £350 cheaper than the next best and less then half the highest quote I got ! And me with only 1 years NCD, no previous high performance car (apparently my Modified R5 GT Turbo with 175BHP doesnt count) and my Mrs as a named driver - she who regularly runs into stationary objects to the delight of the local bodyshop. Im 37 and it came to £750 fully comp and I did tell them about the uprated brakes and adjustable shocks.

Footman James recommended by me.

I had a limited mileage insurance policy with them and had a crash (no one else involved and I was not hurt) with the mileage at twice the limit. All I had to pay was the premium for unlimited mileage and they are still accepting the claim which is going through at the moment. (The actual insurance company may not though.) I'll let you know how it works out.

Do you know if footman james will do under 25s? I have 3 years experience in TVRs.

Wildfire I had a similar experience recently with A Manning. They wanted to know what my current car was and they were very interested in my time with the Boxster and M3.

Despite being a member of the TVRCC the insurance quote they came up with was the 2nd most expensive quote.

Why don't you try one of the mainstream insurers like Privilege. You have the option of limited mileage policies with them and it can all be done on the web in about 5 minutes.

You will get "best quotes" from many different insurance companies both telephone and online depending on location and other factors.

Have a look at this thread - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=82865&f=13&h=0

My main issue is actually getting insurance. Under 25 + TVR =

Even though I have almost 3 years experience and 7 yrs NCB.

Almost all online quotes just result in the screen telling me to phone up.

I too had a similar problem when I first bought my Griff. It worked out cheaper to have my girlfriend on the policy than not.We are with Classic Line a first class company.I did have a small problem with a certain insurance company boldly advertising in Sprint who would not even give me a quote. In my experiance most insurance firms welcome lady's as named drivers. Cheers.

ps my better half a very good driver but never driven anything as quick as the Griff before but still accepted no problem and we have had the Griff for over four years now.

Yes, I was expecting it to be straightforward - she is older than me, female (obviously), and has an equally good driving record, so I naively thought that there would be nothing more than a minimal admin charge.

First question that Classic Line asked when I rang them was about high performance RWD experience and they simply wouldn't quote without it.

Now that I think about it, they did ask the same question of me, when I took out the policy...I remember reeling of a list of cars stretching back to when I was about 21 years old which would satisfy their criteria, so it wasn't an issue in my case!

I'm happily with Mannings and several years driving a FWD Alfa GTV 3.0 seemed enough for them at the time.

Their criteria seems really odd, I had virtually no rwd hi performance car experience when i first got the Griff, but once I said I'd raced Superbikes at National level they were fine and happy to quote.
