Hi,

The veneer dash is in perfect condition, but it is peeling away from the metal dash ( I assume ) it was glued onto, at the corners.

What's the best glue to stick this back on please?

Any tips or warnings appreciated.

Cheers,

Martin

I'm not sure if it's available in the UK but I used Tightbond 3 when I re veneered the dash on my car. Others suggest contact cement.

You'll need something like a c clamp and a block of wood to hold it in place tight until it sets.

I've seen many with cracks in the veneer, inevitable in the end usually, but not many peeling away! I presume it has been previously replaced?

I'm a fan of 2-part epoxy resin for most things like this but it may not be suitable at such a thin layer that it isn't obvious. frown Contact adhesive maybe?

Cracks in the veneer would indicate that the clear coat is failing. If it's peeling away, the veneer itself is peeling away from the backing.

Titebond Cold Press Veneer Glue. Made for the job. Worked for me.

Don't use a contact adhesive like Evo-Stick etc. In a hot cab it will let go. Just look at all the vinyl/leather that peals away from the back of the trim in TVRs.

Old skool cascamite is really good for fixing peeling veneers . Make sure its the powdered version , don’t know if they’ve removed all the good sticky stuff from it nowadays but it was a carpenters go to glue back in the day .

Just to clarify. This is the veneer and backing peeling away as a whole piece from the dash at the corners.

The veneer condition is fine.

Just need an adhesive to glue the backing back to the dash.

just to share an odd thing that happened to my dash, I've had the car for 20 years, prior to my ownership the dash must of been out and repaired as the numberplate was written on the back of it. One day the front of the oil gauge fell off while driving, a couple of the gauges were partially dissolved and weakened by whatever glue was used and were partially glued into the dash. They must of put the dials in too soon after glueing. I switched the whole lot to a new dash from a chap selling on piston heads and had to replace a few dials.
