Advice please from you knowledgeable chaps.

Griffith 500 (serpentine engine) going well but then the red ignition warning light started flashing when under 3/4 throttle load - not flashing when light throttle.
Ammeter reading down to 11 and oil pressure reading lower than normal (car uses no oil in 3k annual use & oil changed each year). Engine running fine although I drove the last few miles home gently because of the oil pressure reading.
Serpentine belt looks fine and correctly tensioned.
Is this a sign that the alternator is stuffed or is there another problem?
TIA.

It could also be the sign of the big fuse under the chassis starting to crack.
I would start to check this 100 amps fuse, it's less expensive than an alternator.

Ammeter reading low indicates the battery is not charging, but I'd agree with the above, it's more likely to be the 100A fuse. On a previous Chimaera, it would glow slightly and turned out to be cracked.

On my current Griff, it fell apart when I took it out after I had broken down with the car running rough. I had no light at all for that one. They should be considered a service item really.

Do you have any squeaking from the serpentine belt?

How strange,

Last week too griff out for a blast, all good however I did get a few flashes of the charge light, roll on four or five days, loading eh car on a trailer to transport, sudden smoking from under the bonnet, lifted it and alternator as happily smoking away, no lights.

Yes because I lifted the bonnet the smoke turned into flames, no prior warning, just buggered alternator, landrover unit too.

Be careful

No squeaking - serpentine tight & in good condition.
