Help and advice..?

Hi all

Have recently sold my S2 and am now on the lookout for a Griff 4.3 or 5.0.

Am aware that the serp engine and T5 box are the one to have if poss with my budget £12000 at the most.

But do you fella's have any more pointer's that i should look out for on my quest to find my new TVR (Griff).

If it's £12k max spend £10k and keep £2k back. You won't get Serp and T5 for that but you might get a well-used but sound 4.3. Otherwise there should be a fair few 4.0s in that price range.

Assuming you're aware of the usual TVR advice (e.g. condition, chassis rust esp. outriggers, electrics working, drivetrain clunks, cam past its best etc) it's worth bearing in mind that it can cost less to sort bodywork than a tatty interior. Also refurbing OZ cross-spokes is very expensive.

Or you could look at some Chims. You'll alwyas get a newer Chim for your money than Griff. Having said that I didn't take that advice and I bought a Griff. but there were special circumstances.

I'll always love the griff shape (it's my fave tvr shape ever) but my S does more than a griff could for less money .. they're lighter, lower geared and rarer. They regularly punch above their weight on track, and because of the light weight and lower gearing any mods you make have a proportionately greater effect. Decnt suspension and tyres on a std V8S will be faster around most circuits than a std 5 litre griff, and save you a few 000s too.

If you've set your heart on a griff then go get one, I for one can't blame you at all, but also add a V8S to yuor shortlist if performance is what you're after.

The Griff is of course the most beautiful car ever made by TVR (however I have say that the Tuscan Mk1 is the most awesome)and almost the most beautiful car ever conceived (am I a bit biased perhaps?).

I called into Peninsula yesterday to look at their wares! There were Chims, Cerbs, Tuscs, T350's and Tams galore but guess what - NO GRIFFS. Wahey - does this mean that we lucky owners are now hanging on to our beloveds. You bet we are!

You could try Rob Ingleby to see if he's seen any recently.

Mostly look for the same things you would on the S.

I've not really had anything go wrong with mine so can't really comment on special Griff faults to look out for.
Extras to normal TVR checks maybe:
Expect front end resprays as they do stone chip easily.
Perhaps worth taking a look at the radiator. Just had mine changed and not sure if the angle of them under that bonnet gap makes them age quicker. (This may not be the case. I'll let you know when I need another radiator!)
