Does the roof need to be bone dry before using water seal or is it OK to use when the roof is slightly damp? {not for my griff which is still under repair but my wifes MGF which resembles a swamp!}John.

Does it say on the tin? If its urgent (and by the look of the weather forecast it might be!) I would go ahead...it certainly won't harm

I always used it on a dry roof. Try and allow 24hours for it to cure.

I generally subscribed to "quite a few coats", my car was driven every day and in Newcastle if often rained, rpobab one coat every 2-3 months and the car never leaked ever. Also make sure you buy the standard Thompsons, not the expensive stuff as that's white, and I don't think it's suitable for canvas. Where as the Standard stuff is clear.

Anyone got strong views as to whether Thomson's or Fabsil is better?

Only ever used Fabsil as it's designed for tents. I use the brush on stuff which comes in abig can as it's easier to use than the aerosol spray which goes everywhere, I pu on a coat every spring. Never used Thompsons although people also swear by it. Rich...

Been using Thompsons for a couple of years - it is also for canvas (says on the tin) and no leaks at all. Car is used daily and no garage.

I used Thompsons for mine. I'd try and do it in the dry - when I did mine, I washed the car a couple of hours later and the water seemed to "foam" slightly on the roof when I wet it. It's still waterproof now and beads lovely, but I did think I'd broken it at the time!
