Plenum thermal plate
Discussion
Do these thermal plates/spacers fit under the Griff bonnet without any collion between bonnet and plenum?
Has anyone had any experience of these?
Who sells them?
I suppose it's a tricky thing to dyno this sort of thing for gains because a) They will be very small b) It will be hard to simulate real driving conditions (heat soak) on a rolling road.
Anyone any ideas?

Depends what 'these' spacers are you're referring to. Various people have made and fitted them but I don't think there is such a thing as a standard off-the-shelf mod you can get. So whether it fits on your particular car will depend on how thick a spacer you use is and how much clearance your particular car has under the bonnet. I would have thought that you only need a phenolic spacer a couple of mil thick to get most of the gains, and I would have thought that would easily fit under a typical bonnet.

not sure it's worth the outlay.
How much outlay are you looking at, £10 ish plus an hour of your time to fit it? Hardly going to break the bank, is it?
Where can I can this from then Pete?
The ones I have seen are in the region of £70 and look about 8-10mm thick, hence the reason why I asked the question!

Maybe the thicker phenolic sheet costs more, but the thin stuff I used was quite cheap and enough for a single spacer would have worked out at under a tenner. Add in a few minutes work to cut a few holes in it and Bob's your uncle. £70 sounds a bit steep for that, but I guess you're paying for the convenience. Even at that price, if it gains you a single horse power it's money well spent. And it would only take a temperature drop of 1C to achieve that. Given that the plenum base is typically 50 C hotter than the incoming air it's obvious that the potential gains are significantly higher than that.
Yes they do fit under a standard Griff bonnet. I've had one for around six months now and it's surprising how it stops the heat transfer from engine to plenum. What the performance increase is, I don't know but if it's reducing the intake charge temp it has to have some benefit.
TVR Power sell them, around the £70 mark, I.I.R.C.

mine was around 4mm compresed, and was for a twin plenum. i reckon you have more chance of gains from additional volume in the chamber and charge length than by reduced temp. after 10/15 mins the gain would be gone...it'll end up at the ambient block temp anyway, just take longer.
did cock all on mine on the rollers, but why not? if you're in there anyway, stick it in!
