Looking for a little info.

Where do people fix the eye bolts to in the Griff for the lower harness straps ?

Looks like there's not enough room (very close to seat runner)to use the location where the standard belt flexi thing is bolted to ?

That is the normal place to mount it, double check to see if you can get enough room - it doesn't take much.

The normal 3/4" eye bolts that will come with the harness will be too short, but the people who sold you the harness should be able to supply 1.5" eye bolts which are long enough to go through the body and into the chassis. Then you just trap the original flexi things under the eye bolts, clip the harness on and you're done.

Thanks Guys

Andy, I'm only a short arse but I wonder if by raising the seat I wouldn't be able to wear my helmet with the roof on ?

Yes, would only use them for track days.

The roll-bar I've got has the top mounts it's just the lower one's which need to be sorted out.

Funny enough the eyelets cleared the seat runners in my old precat 400. They must have changed the seat frames or somthing on the later models.

Andy.

Almost. The precat inner lower belt mounts are farther back than on the later cars so the seat runners do not hit the eye bolt when installed. Tower View told me because of this they weld new inner lower harness mount points on the later cars, a little further back to allow fitment of the harness without fouling the seat runners. It might be worth phoning them to ask if there are any issues with using the standard location. If it's just that tall people can't get their seat far enough back, and you're happy with that then I guess it's OK, but if there's a some other reason to do with the angle of the webbing or something, you might have to consider having the additional mounts fitted.

Yeh, I bought my roll-bar from Tower and they told me about putting in a new location further back down the tunnel. Just wondered if anyone else had found an alternative way of doing it.

Colin.

Oh yes, will be fitting it shortly.

Just got to take out the dash and heater switch panel as I'm replacing them with carbon fibre and then I'll going to take all the suspension off for painting. This should give good access for fitting the roll-bar.

Need to decide which shocks to buy as I intend to rebuild with new units and I'll probably include a set of those rose jointed ARB link arms.

Winter play time is always busy for me.

Good stuff. I don't understand their policy. They supplied (at least) one for DIY fitment previous to my enquiring with them, but refused point blank to supply me one for DIY fitment, citing 'liability issues' if I (or anyone else but them) fitted it. So I paid over £600 for them to fit it, and now they're sending them out for DIY fitment again .

Anyway good luck with it, it's a good piece of kit.

I have a harness in a 98 500. The eye bolts fit into the original holes that secure the normal road belt and I have no problem with them fouling the standard seat runners. It all fits together nicely. The harness is not ideal for road use as you can not lean forward at junctions so I simply unclip them for normal use and pop them back when blasting up the hills. If you plan to use the car competitively then you should also consider changing the seat. I now routinely swap the seat along with clipping in the harness. As said before the standard bolts are too short.

Yeh, didn't seem any problem in me buying to fit myself.

I'll be having a go at it shortly.

Thanks. I'll give it a go.

I only intend to use the harnesses on track

On my Willans harness (96 Griff) I used the existing bolts to fix the lower straps either side of the seat. I've not used an eye bolt. Have I done the wrong thing or have I got a different fitting on my harness? It seems to work fine.
