Griff 500 (98) couple of dashboard questions

Took my dash out tonight (as I'm going to fit a carbon fibre panel)and I was expecting to find a bulb out on the speedo because when the panel lights are on it's not as bright as the other clocks but all 3 bulbs were ok. I assume that bulbs must be a lower wattage than the bulbs in the other gauges, I'll check tomorrow, but out of interest is anybody elses like this ?

Also, there's a bulb holder in the base of the rev counter which isn't wired up, in fact it never has been. Does anybody have a light in the base of their rev counter ?

Hi colin just checked mine they are lit all way round, same brightness
as others.

I thought it was me going mad! My speedo lighting is the same as well - dimmer than the others. I was going to get it looked at.

Anybody know anything about the bulb holder in the base of the rev counter ?

In the Steve heath book it suggests that the bulb holder is for a 'change-up' light. There was a similar thread on the Chimaera forum a few days back.

Tis where one could go, but TVR never wired/set it up too.

I asked about this quite a while back and was advised it wasnt really worth it as the light is so small and not in the best place, ie it would be better on top of the dash in better view. So never bothered.

Out of interest do the Griffs have a rev limiter. With my limited driving skills the RS's rev limiter used to cut in quite often on track days.

Yep, but you'll want to change before then anyway.

Any got any rolling road plots of standard 500 engines, would be interested in looking at the shape of the power and torque curves.

Can the speedo lights be modified easily to remove the TVR "feature"? I'm living in Germany at the moment, and reading the KPH scale on the speedo is virtually impossible. not really a drama on the unrestricted autobahns, but it can be a bit of a guess on the back roads! The Germans seem to put their speed cameras in legimate, sensible places, and I haven't been flashed yet, but I'd prefer to have a bit more of an idea of the speed I'm doing at night!

Is it just a case of putting a higher wattage bulb in?

I rely on my Road Angel to give a true speed.

Fair one I suppose - I could do the same with my Tom Tom 5.

If it is as easy as putting in another bulb, or a higher wattage bulb, I'd like to take the option.

If you are going to the trouble of taking the dash out, much better to use LEDs, they last 11 years, even if left on !! I went white as i have white on black dials and an ally dash.
