Starter problem?

I drove my 96 Griff 500 20 miles yesterday morning. Went to start again after 3 hrs and nothing, not even a click. A nice man from the RAC came to have a look and he could not find a fault. He checked all the obvious things ,battery, earth leads, connections etc, but still nothing from the starter. We eventually bump started the car and I drove a further 20 miles turned the engine off and it started as per normal!! Has any one had this problem? Could it be an alarm or immobilisor fault? The car has a Metta? alarm fitted which seems to be ok as the fuel pump fires up and doors lock etc.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Had this on mine and the cable that goes on to the starter
had come off the crimp inside looked ok untill you pulled
the main cable,and it came out had starter off 3 times till
found it fitted new crimp been fine since.

I will check the cable out and if ok strike it off the list!
