Fuel system depressurise?

Have read Bible re changing fuel pump, and have to depress. fuel system, how do I do this safely. Thanks in advance.

just start the engine with one terminal pulled off the fuel pump .. when it dies after a few seconds turn it over again on the starter for a few more seconds and then you're done
