When it decides to take exception to its cooling water and pour it all over the floor. (All I did was change the thermostat including a new gasket)
When it decides to have problems with the wiring. Why are there so many wires in there that are only connected at one end ??? What does the blue wire with the red stripe actually DO? (It sits behind the 3 light switches, apparently doing nothing)
All I want to do is drive the thing before it snows and the MOT runs out. I know that I'll forgive it everything then.

I think it's the new stat housing gasket given up (after 10 minutes use 
) I don't think it's anything to do with over-filling.
Electrical problem is probably me being a perfectionist and wanting the little warning lamps to actually come on when they need to and be bright enough to be seen in daylight. I took the dash out and was presented with a total rats nest of wires... and half of the wires "came off" the tabs (or were never even on tabs) as I removed the dash. Most have been worked out now, but there are some Exeters (see "The meaning of Liff"

A similar 2 problems used to happen with the headlamps. They're fixed now, but I'm not happy with the tidiness of the job I did (since it was done in a rush so we could go somewhere in the car...)

Make sure the stat hasn't fallen down whilst you were refitting the housing you can't see without taking it off again though.. cos its on the front face of the manifold it not easy to keep in place.This happened to me it fell down whilst tightening bolts, it didn't show until after the engine was started and the pressure built up..
Either way keep fighting the good fight, and steady on fixing everything some people call that character.
I think you've got it there Griffsmith. Just dismantled it all again (including the PAS system this time, so there's more room) and the bottom of the gasket hasn't been compressed.
Also, the housing face isn't flat either, but I don't think it's supposed to be... (Anyone care to comment?)

Glad I am not the only one. After 8 years of owning a trouble free wedge, I bought a Griff a couple of months ago, which happens to be half the age and half the milage of the wedge. When I bought it I knew it needed quite a bit of work ( all the normal things that you read about on these threads for a 92 Griff thats not had too much TLC recently......) Some days I tear my hair out, but its here to stay..... Also have a very young son, who is causing me to tear my hair out, but also hear to stay......
One question, what fuel should I be putting in ( the Griff, not the son ). Its a '92 4.0. In the book it just sais that if it has cats ( which it hasn't ) you can't put 4 star in. So far I have just been using cheap unleaded. It doesn't seem to pink ( not sure you would hear it anyway ). Is there any advantage ( other than a possible very slight power increase ) to using super unleaded?

I bought a precat in need of TLC as well. Fun aren't they?!!
Following my investigations pre-purchase I concluded that pre-cats will run fine on 95 RON - as indeed mine does. Some 500s will too, but in general they need 97 plus. Another point to the precats
