Anyone know whether the 16in wheels on the last of the Griffs were just rears put on the front ?? i.e. do all wheels have the larger offset (35mm I.I.R.C.) and if they are, did TVR modify the hubs, front suspension geometery to suit ?? My guess is they didn't but I'd be interested to know.

Phil,
Hello bloke. Just trying to get my head round this and I 'think' offset should be ok as the rears are 7.5 and not 7". Could be complete tosh though. Could it be we are worried over nothing as TVR chose to fit two different wheel widths, is this why the offsets are different to accomodate?

I think you're right Mac, we worrying over nothing. Best thing to do is just see how the car feels with the new rims on.

No one has yet given the answer to my question though.

Phil bloke, What I mean is, 'is it that the rear is a 7.5', when fitted to the front, it matches the rear in terms of alignment? Can't really see TVR or anyone else having 200 [100 car front 16"] wheels made to a different offset.
Would be nice to have the official though.

I have fitted 16" Estorils to the front of my 1998 Griff (purely for aesthetic reasons) with no real issues. They are identical to the rears but I've fitted slightly narrower tyres on the front - 225/45 as opposed to 245/45 rear. I doubt very much that the factory made any adjustments to offsets, hubs etc. on the last 100 Griffs, but I have noticed that they generally seem to have an increased ride height at the front compared to my car. Occasionally, when manouvreing in a tight spot you can hear a slight rubbing sound on full lock (although there is no sign of any contact to the bodywork) which might explain why the factory felt the need to increase the ride height on the later cars. Out on the open road there is certainly no issue and the slight increase in low speed ride harshness is more than compensated for by the keener turn-in to corners.

This could lead to instability at speeds over 120-125...

This is most likely the inside of the rim rubbing on the lower wishbone. Rich....

I have 16's on the front of my 95' Griff and suffer slight lower wish bone clearence issues, they seem dependent on ride height, if I lower the ride height I get contact between wheel rim and lower wish bone , to allow me to run the desired height I have machined some 1/8 spacers which work just fine.
Dom at TVR power told me that on the SE cars TVR changed the suspension geometry to suit the larger wheel. How this effected the handling I'm not sure but a friend who had one of the last 100 had no problems (although compared to a std Griff the ride height does look a tad high) my own car with the Nitrons and stiffer springs is just great with improved turn in and better steering feel compared to the 15's (the fact I can fit larger brakes is a bonus too)
