Had the Griff out all last weekend (4.5 hour hoon on Sunday morning), went to start it this morning and...dead as a very dead thing! Plugged in the Accumate so now we are charging.

I KNOW they have a bad rep for holding charge BUT
1) Brand new sealed battery fitted in late August!!
2) Only 5 days since last used??

So...are these things OK to keep plugged in permanently (when car not in use) or what??

Whats galling is that we dont set the alarm so the only things on are the clock and the immobiliser.

Mind you - blessing in disguise - as soon as its able to fire up Id best take it out for an hour or two as Im sure the best way to charge the battery is to use the car isnt it ??

If the battery is very flat it will take more than a blast to charge it and typically more than an accumate. Give it a real charge with a decent battery charger - overnight - and the battery will be a lot better for it.

Mine lasts a month with out a run easily and thats with the alarm on.

I now use a battery conditioner thought since I dont use it so much and found it doesn't last 2 months with out it!

There have been quite a few posts on the Chim forum about strange drains on the battery - interior light (for example) somehow causing high drain even with the light off. Im quoting from memory but maybe its something like that ?

Chims and Griffs both seem to suffer from this, although my 450 goes 2-3 weeks between drives in winter, sat outside alarm on and starts every time.....

I have noticed that with the face plate on my stereo will still pull a load.
Perhaps this is the cause since the stereo power is not switched by the ignition.

I take the face plate off each time though so mine is fine.

My stereo will flatten the battery very quickly if not completely turned off ie if clock/display still showing.

Didnt know the stereo draws current even when swithced off / ignition off... Wow!

I'm lucky if I get more than 5 days max without the trickle charger - new routine - face of stereo even when in garage might be a solution - tried everything else...thanks Dusty.

It would be easy to wire the stereo power through the ignition switch (there is even a spare switch not used on the Griff ignition) but saves a few upside down hours by just taking off the face plate!

I only realised it when opening mine and there was a light on by the CD draw. Remove the face plate and it switches off.

(I have a Pioneer CD and MP3 player. Cant remember the model but retails around £300).
