Clutch fluid tank cover

I had occasion to take this off today to check the level (pedal seems a bit too heavy these days) and used the following sealant to refit the cover...

Loctite 5940 Superflex Black silicone sealant.
Cat No: 24802.
40ml tube for less than a fiver (Halfords). Comes with a nozzle (I cleaned it with a thin screwdriver and bit of rag) plus a separate cap so it shouldnt go off too soon.

It claims "withstands extremes of temperature, non shrinking" and "forms a perfect replacement seal for windscreens".

Its too early to say anything about its waterproof capability however the fact that its for windscreens should make it OK.

I mention it as I recall reading (and after speaking with Mongoose) that other stuff - Sikaflex and Wurth:Bond and Seal - can be difficult to get hold of and is expensive.

Oh...it went on a treat too and the compulsory bit that I got on my hands and then on the kitchen door and bathroom door, washed of with soap and water!!

Hate to burst your bubble but I used ordinary silicone sealant (a few quid for a standard size tube). Chose light grey to go with the car. Worked perfectly

No probs at all

Its just that a few guys talk about buying the expensive waterproof/heatproof stuff as the standard off-the-shelf product hasnt held up too well in these areas ie leaks etc.
