I hadn't realised this until it was pointed out to me recently, but the general concensus among the RV8 tuners is steer clear of steel rockers as their extra mass increases stresses on the valve/cam system aparently. I guess when you have a rocking steel mass at 5k rpm it does become an issue.
Don't know the answer to getting better quality alloy rockers in there though .. V8Racing is the man to ask

The steel rockers I saw were volvo sourced and adjustable for solid lifters. If you're sticking with hydraulic lifters the you don't really need steel rockers. They were found on the Olds 215, maybe buick 300? You can get pukka stuff from buick engines and use them instead. Usual roller rocker aluminium sources are Kenne Bell (US) and Yella Terra (OZ) but you're not out of the woods as the valvetrain geometry may be wrong. Stock rv8 stuff is ok for most of us

I was wondering wheather some better rockers might be in order as well.I'm concerned long term about how secure the pads on the original rockers are, especially now mines modded a bit.I only recently read about someone on here having the pads break up and causing engine damage.I also thought the steel rockers were the way to go.

When I had the rebuild (V8D), steel were the way to go, whats changed .

Steel will be stronger and you may need the strength if you have a hard working valvetrain. Downside is you have extra weight which is the enemy so it's a case of setting your priorities

David, steel ones with or without hardened inserts? If without, where did you det them? pt
This kit Pete:
Here is a close up of one of the rockers:
Mine are not identical, but are similar. I do not know if they are hardened or not, I was more worried about the valve contact pad coming off the standard alloy ones!

Seems like the business. The ones I got was steel WITH hardened contact pads - and I don't like that combination any more than alloy's with contact pads. pt
I fitted steel rockers to my last Griff' with cam change. They didn't have inserts. Seems to miss the point really if they have them. Must say was concerned about added reciprocating mass, but did previously find three pads [from alloy rockers] had come off.
There are some scarier pictures in the bible BTW that came out of my Griff. They were replaced with steel rockers.
There are many different types of steel rockers ranging from a not much more than alloys to near enough £1000 a set
so it is worth getting a set that is suitable for what your needs are.

I have kenne bell roller rockers on mine but they are not made any more - so getting a set is impossible ..
Yella Terra are still available..
like steve said there are very many different types of steel rockers out of interest harry the ones we fitted to your car are not much heavier than the ally ones and were very good, i saw on a customers car the other day that were recently fitted by......... and they were truely craaaaaaaaaap were the pushrods fit they werent even all the same depth to a massive margin ie 5 mm!! not though you just couldnt set the preload! i threw them away and put standard ones back on!!
