Bit of a shock (the happy kind!) for the last 2 fill-ups, got about 28 then 32mpg from a grif 500. I have not been 'Driving miss Daisy' as such, even discoverd yesterday that the car wheelspins at 80 if you press on a bit much.

Is this normaly what everyone else gets?

I've had that sort of mpg before, but not many others have.

I did too! Actually the mileage is a commuting run, and dosn't seem to be out at all compared to my other car.

One thing could be as I fill up at the same petorl pump .... could be getting free petrol. but I suppose that is wishful thinking!

HHHHmmmmm :scratchin:

must be something wrong with mine then. Mine won't wheelspin in third and it only does 4mpg!

either your clutch is slipping, your engine is "fluffing" or you live in kent/east anglia and have lots of white stuff about!

most likely fluffing, i suggest you get it looked at, its probably running too lean or has dirty injectors, maybe an ignition prob. should be cheap to sort anyway.

if you have enough power to spin in third (350+ bad tyres) you WON'T be getting 30+ mpg!

mine used to do about 24 to the gallon...originally!

Sorry
Andy

What's fluffing Andy (I know the phrase in another capacity but won't go in to it here)?

hesitation Dave, like a lack of fuel or spark. not a misfire as that tends to move the spark making it lumpy.

i've had it a couple of time when tuning the Griff for various mods, and in some instances it feels just like wheelspin.

the hesitation feels like you losing traction, but instead you are losing power
(most likely in a std car)

andy

BTW mine will wheelspin in third...in the wet...on road tyres! changes into 3rd at 90!

Mine's doing 16MPG at the moment. Will wheelspin in 3rd, but only on the lovely slippy SMA coated roads round here... Should be better when the new ECU is up and running.

It used to do 25 mpg when we first got it.

I see no reason why you should not be able to get that sort of consumption if you are very light with the right foot, you are only moving an 1100kg car around.

Get between 16 - 24, depending. As for wheelspin, got a fair bit the other day, with some interesting steering wheel twitch to the right when accelerating in a straight line

I quite fancy doing three different maps for mine.one for economy/touring,one for normal everyday use, then one for track/max power.Any thoughts?

Don't think my 450 Chimaera could do 30mpg with the engine off, rolling downhill and wind assisted !!!!

Not sure what I got but I drove from Bolton (as in North of Manchester) to Kenley (Surrey) yesterday and used 3/4 a tank of fuel. Not bad.

Had wheelspin for 1st time in 4th in the wet the other day whilst pressing on a bit... pesky white lines.

Never had that kind of mpg, always sub 20 until I got bored of checking.... track day mpg @ 8 I think...

In reality this is what you do when mapping a single map anyway Mike .. the parts of the map you use for cruise (light throttle low revs) aren't the same as you use when pressing on (large throttle high revs) .. so you map each sector accordingly. One of the great mysteries I've heard is when tuners say they *map for driveability not for power* .. well I map for both ('cos that's the whole point of mapped fuel and spark) just at different points in the mapping grid! Like David Vizard says : anyone who says they map for a smooth power curve couldn't find the power in the first place!

Having a couple of maps more suited to a turbo car - one silly boost map and one "normal" boost map (for instance if you can't get any 97+ RON fuel). For a NA car, I'm not going to bother as it's pretty much pointless - the engine will run at the VE it wants to run at.

I'm expecting gains in economy from a newer ECU that has mapped timing and simply from having new (ie not worn out!) parts.

Trackcar - good post

I'm currently doing 16-20 MPG. Foot down and I'll get around 13 out of her.
