I have recently (1500 miles ago) had a new camshaft, new rockers,new rocker shafts, new followers, new camshaft chain and sprockets fitted, (by a TVR specialist) to cure a tappet noise. Obviously at the time the oil and filter were replaced. After 500miles of running in the oil and filter was replaced again. I noticed a few weeks ago that if the engine was run for a few miles and then turned off for ten minutes or so and then re started the tappets started to rattle. If I blip the throttle it goes away. On cold start up it isn't a problem. Any advice or ideas? I guess one or more followers aren't priming, is this usual? Iam taking it back to specialist in the meantime.
Ask the specialist if the pre-load on the tappets was re-set, or even better have a look yourself.
Almost invariably if the pre-load has not been re-set it will be way out after changing so many of the valve train components.
Alternatively take it to Rob at V8 Racing and let him take a looksee.
