AA Insurance - avin a laff

I lost my rag with the AA last year.
Someone hit my TVR (with Sunninghill). I claimed directly through the third party's insurance.
When it comes to renewing the Supra insurance the AA refuse to give me protected no claims unless I pay another £100+.
They wanted me to pay somewhere around £600, whereas without the accident it would be around £480. I had renewed with them for £480 through the website/website helpline, but they did not tell me that they had cancelled the Protected NCB after I declared the accident!!
Coupled with the the abismal service and having to deal with 2 call centres in Newcastle and Cardiff, each who didn't know what was going on, I told them where to go.

Just Got a letter from AA after my son put in a call on his old VW golf, they said as it was our forth call in one year on our family membership covering four cars including my Griffith (no calls)they said they may charge us £95 for our next call out. When we joined they never mentioned a limit on call out. The lettre was curt and and left us with the swored of Damacleaze over all our heads.

I would never buy breakdown cover from the AA again after their scare tactics. Basically a few years back I found I could get RAC all in cover for free by using Tesco clubcard points. So when my AA membership expired I declined to renew and went with RAC. The AA decided to put the frighteners on me and post me an ON TOW sign along with a nasty letter telling me that as I had cancelled my membership I would be needing it as I would be breaking down soon and it would serve me right, that I would be stranded with no one to help me and I would be putting myself and my family in danger.
So now not only do I continue with the RAC I make a point of never buying anything AA branded like maps. If we all did this maybe they would be a bit more polite !
RAC BTW top bunch , had to call 2 times in 4 years and both times they were there in 20 mins, 2nd time I had the Mrs and Kids on board so the RAC man calls up an extra van for the kiddie seats to fit better - this taxis the family back home while we toddle off to the local garage to dump the car. Cant say enough good things about them :-)

Dear me, sad to hear AA horrors.
I did the family cover with AA last year having spent 27 odd years of motoring with all sorts of cars and no breakdown cover whatso-ever. What made me do it was that I'm working abroad and we have 4 cars at home. 3 are ours and then my daughter now has a car. The Discovery is getting on in years and my daughter has an oldish Vitara jeep. Then there's the Griff - if the wife is out in it and something happens she's stuck. So I got the AA all things cover.
We had recource to call them a couple of months back as the Griff wouldn't start (thread posted on TVR CC forum). I wasn't home and wasn't getting back home for a couple of weeks. The AA man came, sprayed WD 40 all over the place, churned over the starter and got it to catch - he then revved the heck out of it according to my wife "needs a good blow through love". Good job I was a thousand miles away !!
When I got back - guess what - it wouldn't start! After a lot of fiddling, checking, cleaning etc. I just changed all the spark plugs for new ones (by the time you've got 4 out and they're clearly flooded you might as well replace all of them) and it hasn't missed a beat since. I start it up every 2 weeks or so but it's semi-laid up in the garage at the moment.
