Griffith 500 Gearbox Problem

Hi,

I have a 94 pre serp Griffith 500. Whilst driving into work this morning, my gear selection appears to have developed a problem. The gear stick has gone very 'loose'. I can select all gears, but with difficulty. Even when in a gear, the gear stick has plenty of play in it. Any ideas ?

Please could you expand on this !. ie. Is this something that can be resolved without dropping the gearbox ?

Sounds like you have an LT77 gearbox (Rev left and forward).
There is a small nylon bush at the base of the gear lever which wears and has a tendancy to fall out. I'd almost certainly look at that.

Or there is a bolt on the rear of the box which tends to work loose.

I've removed the Gearsitck, and it doesn't have any nylon bush attached to it. I can see a metal ring which I presume is what the nylon bush needs to sit into. Is this correct (I can't tell from the picture) ? Thanks.

Fitted new ball and nylon bush. This has sorted the problem, although the gearstick is now very stiff. I presume this will loosen in time. Thanks to those who offered suggestions.
