1999 Griff price?

Going to look at a 1999 Griff at a dealer (Castle) on Saturday. It has less than 30k miles and looks in perfect condition.

What should i look for and does £20k sound too much?

I have checked out the invaluable buyers guide, so should be ready, although I can see all that knowledge being blasted from my memory as soon as the engine fires up (it has a sports exhaust!)

Mine's a '99, similar miles and last summer I paid about 22k, but it had just been given a full professional respray which pushed it up a bit.

20 seems about okay for a good one, enjoy the ride.

Edited to add: At around 30k miles, it's unlikely to be perfect, it'll be pretty good though.

My suggestions are to look carefully at the chassis, you'll need to have it up on ramps to do so, try to contact the previous owner(s) and see if they can tell you about it's history. It's hard to tell you what to look out for on the engine, but listen out for any abnormal ticking sounds, leaks from the radiators. After it's warmed (it'll get pretty hot) the fans should both come one, rad shouldn't leak, when it revs it should sound clean (but that sports exhaust might mask a few things).

Check the service history, has it had the 24k service (it's a big expensive one) or are you going to pick that up? If the dealer says he's going to do it will he really do a full service - find out what will be done.

Look at the body work, if it's not had a front end respray (at least) then it'll have a fair few stone chips. How far is the car away from needing a some body work attention? All Griffs suffer from this, reckon on 1K for a front end job, 3K for a full respray. Maybe you'll be lucky and not need it.

£20K dealer price seems OK to me judging by others on the market. If there's a decent warranty and good history coupled with a nice vehicle, fill yer boots.

Last May we paid £19k for a 98 Griff 500 with 29,600 miles from a dealer.

Last March my 1999 Griff was £20K privately with 34K on the clock.... this was with fsh, a fresh front end respray, it had been tuned by Mark Adams and had many other numerous bits and pieces including uprated brakes and suspension.

From a dealer now the price seems right.

Thanks for the replies. It does look about the right price. It will have a 12 month warranty and I understand the guys at Castle TVR are pretty good. Reg plate is T5 GRF if anyone knows its history.

March 1st 1999 was it? Mine is T5LTR! Problems have included Otter Switch x 2 and now I've just got the faulty wiper parking problem, other than that check the chassis outriggers especially low down inside the rear wheel arches ahead of the wheels. Rich...
