Sports exhaust pros & cons

I plan to get a sports exhaust fitted to the Griff before Le Mans - purely for the noise! However, I have a couple of questions:

Does a sports exhaust have any meeningful effect on performance?

Are there any downsides I should be aware of?

Get a Super sports exhaust,only down side could be the neighbours.

pros - the noise

no cons as i know but i dont talk to anyone on the street, not since i fitted it anyway

I had a sports zorst on one of my Chimaeras. Whilst it was loud & rorty, I actually prefer the noise that the standard exhausts make. Somehow it's just more pleasing.

I was always reminded of farting

Depending on which exhaust and which car, power may drop. Bit of a lottery so don't ask which combination. Some have, some haven't.
It's a risk.
Local plod are getting hot on noise and depending on which mod, the car may be banned from track days (even with additional silencers).
Loud exhausts can be very tiring on long journeys.
Classed as an insurance mod.

Yep banned from tracks as I can't get noise down ... 110dB .... looking forward to Monster this year though if its happening.

I'm also looking into to getting a Standard Exhaust as Steve Heath says.... V tyring after a long day in the car.... ears ringing etc

We had an ACT SS manifold and "Y" fitted to our pre-CAT. Didn't exactly make it louder but gave it greater depth of sound (and a little sharper on performance as well). It was always fantastic to listen to and now its even better. And looks the business.

I kept my standard exhaust, my loud exhaust is a chim one with the baffle box removed completely and a bit of modification to fit, not bad for £36 in total.

Luckily i have spent numerous years working on 36 litre diesels, so my ears are shot.
