But before that I need to have a chat with Mark Adams.

The only thing I don't like is the amount of shunting when driving slowly.
It's down to the new H404 cam, It's fine when above 2k revs and really starts to pull strong above 3k which I like.
But if I can't find a solution I shall be removing it and re installing my MC1, which was perfectly smooth at low revs.

So I'll have to see what Mark can do to impprove it a bit.

What a great car, well done!
I have the H404 too and it's very powerful. Indeed, below 2000 rpm there is a lot of shunting; Rob told me the best/only solution is an Omex ignition. Would like to hear what Mark has to say about this.

The H404 is indeed a great cam,and about as good as you can get on hydraulic lifters. You will improve the smoothness down the bottom end if you map the ignition,as i found out,but it'll never be as smooth as say the MC2 for instance.Unfortunately with cam choice, what you gain in one area you have to sacrifice in another, theres really no way around it i'm afraid.Having said that i find the H404 easy enough to live with, and wouldn't want to change it for sure.If considering mapped ignition, then you really ought to look at an alternative ecu altogether though, its much more cost effective.Mark can still map it for you if you prefer, but it also gives you more flexibility with further tuning, and your also able to take it to any rolling road should you wish.
Quinny, could we have an underbonnet pic please,i'd like to see something for comparison purposes if you could help?Cheers,Mike

You're welcome Mike,

Had a quick run up the Horseshoe Pass Llangollen
Looks like a nice area for a run out.I was driving around the Brecons and Black mountains a couple of months ago with Jeffsy,Wales certainly has some impressive driving.
Interesing that the vac pipe has improved things,it certainly sounds like your timing is a fair bit off from being optimised,it'll be interesting to see what mark can do,i reckon you'll stick with the H404 .We'll have to meet up sometime, are you going to chatsworth?

The timing shouldn't be to far out as Rob set it on the Dyno.
The engine's not pinking and is pulling really strong from 2k on.

Definitly going to Chatsworth, Ian from the repair shop is also coming in his Tuscan.
Wait untill people see that, he's painted it Lilac, and it looks bloody fantastic.
Should be a good turn out, looking forward to it
The H404 always pulls strong from 2k onwards,so you will find that anyway, its a very noticeable change,i thought Rob likes to run the dizzy with the vac disconnected, hence some adjustment with it disconnected might be benificial?I'm not sure,as i'm no expert, hopefully Rob might shed some light
I'll have to track you down at chatsworth then,i'm looking forward to it too

Before my last "upgrades" i ran with vac disconnected and if i wanted smooth power, ran with the "non cat tune resistor". The car looks great, a bit too clean though, makes mine look as dirty as it is !!

nice job andy i bet your well chuffed to get the old girl back!! on the 404 front to be honest i am not 100 percent sure who actually told you to go for this cam? if it total driveability you are looking for i know you are getting old and all that and maybe should consider converting your car to an auto with a nice armrest!! but seriously i wouldnt have recomended it? i have recently done a new cam that gives good power and a very very nice cruise with smooth tickover and if you fancy being a guinee pig i will fit it for nothing?
