newbie question.

Does the griff have sufficient air flow going through the front grill with the number plate covering up a large proportion of its surface area?
probably a question covered before, but please be patient with the uninitiated!
would it be possible to place it slightly lower, depending on looks, ground clearance etc, to enable more air to enter the grill,
or are things best just left quite happily as they are?

hmm
You going to get a few different answers Clive.
I think it probably depends on the Characteristics of each individual Car.
Mine runs slightly cooler with the Smaller plate( although not to small) some have used the sticker type, some although I havent seen many have them droped lower. And some are Fine with them in the normal place and size.
I prefer trying to get more airflow through the engine bay not just to keep the engine temp down but to help aid the cooling of other parst that do suffer with the high underbonnet temps.
Not much help sorry but think you best wait and see how yours is, I am sure teh previous owner may tell you its characteristics.

Mine cooled faster after a spell of town driving and then hitting some open roads after I reduced the size of the plate.
However this time of year, when the temp is in single figures it struggles to get to full temp when moving.
To answer your question, I think it's suficient if the cooling system is up to scratch.

Thats funny, i was just going to post a question asking what the best thing to do is, regarding mounting the front plate. I don't like sticking them on the bonnet, it ruins the look. I think from research, is to have a slightly reduced size and have the bar across grill, like the later style Griffs have.
My other question, is it fairly easy to adapt the front end to make a larger hole, or it a whole new front?
I'm tempted to go back to a 92 Griff, either a 4.0 or might even plump for Big Valve, everyone keeps telling me the 500 is better but i need more convincing................

I have a stick on plate on the nose of my 500. In the summer when on the move it runs about 2 or 3 degree's cooler than it did with the standard size front plate fitted. I'm not sure about the change in looks though! I might try a smaller size front plate.
Does anyone know what is legal and what is not? I'm not sure if my stick on plate is legal because it is not vertical to the ground. Are the small plates legal?
