BB is correct, the 100A fuse on the chassis near the starter wont cut all the electrics all it will do is prevent the battery from charging. There is another 100A fuse behind the battery which feeds the fuse box, if this blows you will lose all power.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the fuse near the battery, I assume that this fuse is not solely a griff 500 fitment as my car is a pre-cat?.

Wouldn't blowing a 100 amp fuse require something serious to happen? I would have thought changing the side repeaters wouldn't generate enough of a curent short to blow this?

I have a copy of the bible, I'll have another check for reference to 100 amp fuses as the section on the fuse box makes no reference to it.

Anyone else got some useful advice?
Having read the bible section on the indicator/hazard operation it sounds awfully complicated what with TVR's linking of the hazards, indicators, ignition and alarm/immobilizer circuits together?

Electrics are not my bag, give me something mechanical I can see moving anyday!

Many precats don't have the fuse. The bible is indeed an impressive and useful tome, but it doesn't cover everything, so don't be afraid to ask again.

Are the new indicators bulb ones or LED? If LED you may well find the hazard flasher doesn't work and the alarm gets confused. If it got really confused it could conceivably go into 'immobilised' mode.

I suggest (assuming no 100 amp fuse, or if there is it's OK):

try deactivating the alarm (I kind of assume you've tried this though).
disconnect the battery and refit the original repeaters;
reconnect the battery;
activate/deactivate the alarm and see if things are back to normal.

Thanks for your post, the repeaters are not LED based, they're Fiat Cinquecento like the originals only clear as opposed to orange.

I've yet to check the fuse, to see if it's there and in one piece. I'll then run through the steps you suggest.

I thought similarly of reconnecting the original repeaters and seeing if I can resolve this issue.

Just a question but is it possible to wire the repeaters the wrong way round? The originals are hard wired (i.e. wiring and bulb holder moulded in one)and the new ones required the wiring to be cut and spade connectors fitted. I can't tell which spade is negative and which positive on the repeater unit. Does it really matter?

I've tested bulbs on batterys before and it doesn't seem to matter how their connected.

The Ford ones are oval and as this is a pre cat they are the smaller square (or are they round) units.

Hi,

I'm sure the repeaters on early cars (round repeater) are Fiat sourced, first used on the Tipo and latterly the Cinquecento. They have 'Fiat' embossed on the mouldings behind the amber lense and I checked the part numbers with the TVR and Fiat dealers I contacted for clear lamps, I eventually sourced them from ebay

I found the same info on the Alternative parts list on the Griffith Pages.com site

However, I'm still getting problems and its not with the repeater lamps as I've got them working with the remote plip so thats that sorted. But I've still got no power to the dash or ignition, I've checked for the 100 amp fuse and can find no trace of it either on the chassis or by the fuse box. I may have to call in the eleccy pro's as I think its related to the secondary Gemini immobiliser that was installed by a previous owner to meet CAT 2 insurance requirements.

Things that are working are the windows, central locking, indicators/repeaters (only on lock & unlock)and the horn, so I can forewarn people I'm in the garage...immobile ha ha sigh!

Even if this 100 amp fuse was fitted, its purpose according to the Bible is to prevent current surge to the battery and electrics from the alternator. My problems have occured without the engine running, would the problem be between the battery and the dash? Got a feeling the dash is going to have to come out, queue splintered veneer!?

Ah thats a Bummer, Is starting to sound like an Alarm/immobilser fault/problem though. They cut the ignition supply sometimes, and the repeaters are normally wired into the alarm to.
I know you probaly have but is there anyway of resetting the Alarm, instructions? disconnect battery reconnect stand on your head and sign Kumbayah My lord type thing.
Carl Baker is the Alarm Guru who might be able to help you more.
